Replacing wheel bearing - Cost?
Comments
-
For that car £220 should have got you both rear hubs fitted.0

For wheel bearings, not really. The reasons you do it with brakes, shock absorbers and springs is to do with maintaining balance between both sides when cornering or braking. This doesn't matter at all with a wheelbearing as it has no effect as long as its not worn.
I would tend to replace both, not because of 'balance', but on the basis that if one side has gone, the other won't be far behind. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
The myth of replacing things in pairs is a juicy one that keeps garages in extra froth each week. Even a new car can have parts from different suppliers and sources with build dates years apart. Added to that, with second hand cars, you have no idea, unless you have had it from new, of the age of components.0

I have just been quoted £150 - £200. This includes front wheel bearing, new hub cap and new nuts. Seems expensive to me as I've looked at Utube clip and doesn't seem too difficult to complete.0

I don't know anyone who pays a garage to do this sort of stuff, the parts are cheap. Have a go... You can always take it to the garage if you can't figure it out.An opinion is just that..... An opinion0

I used to do them on my cars until I had a megane and I couldn't get the old one out. Took the wheel and the new bearing (about £20) to the local Halfords and they charged me a tenner to replace it.Out on blue six..
It's Chips and Jackets, Peas and Trousers.0 -
some the barings fall out then you have to knock the races out with a hammer and drift, some you have to press out some you have to replace the whole hub. with the first two its the labour, with the last one is a mix of labour and cost of the hubAre you a mind reader - I have just been charged 175 + vat - which i thought was on the high side - Is changing the wheel bearing of a car that hard ( i wont have been able to do it my self)0
