Six year old lives in Princess dress.

My little girl when not at school or Badgers loves to wear her princess dress. The problem is she's getting teased by others for doing so and some of the mums (who I suspect would see wrong in everything) down the park are damn right rude. However, most adults find it sweet and she gets great joy from wearing it.
Any ideas for rebuttals?

Tell them to get a life! We let our 3 year old pick her own clothes everyday and she ends up in weird combos, I can tell you. When people say anything I just say I'd rather see her in weird clothes than like some poor children, stuck in a corner rocking back and forth. If she's happy, then that's all that matters. Hey, get one yourself too, then they'd have something to talk about!

You could say, "Clothes maketh the girl so it is better to look like a princess than a chav."

Hi Rachel ,

I've edited your post to give you your answer . Wherever we go in life there will always be people who disagree with anything we say or do, just rise above it. In as little as ten years time she will be pushing every button you have just to annoy you .:)

my little girl used to have 2 fave costumes, snow white, and her fireman suit! I let her wear them whenever she wanted (often the fireman suit was worn to bed too!) I couldn't give a toss what other people thought, she is just a little girl doing what every little girl should be able to do, live in an innocent fairytale world where nothing bad ever happens. Enjoy every moment, that age doesn't last long enough.

My daughter lived in her Snow White outfit and red wellys from the age of two until she was six. Then she decided to be spiderman.

Why do you need to tell people anything?

Anytime you are in a conversation with more thn one mum, pat the nearest one and loudly inform her that her child will have an imagination too someday. They just all move at different paces.

And despite what your OH/nursery teacher/doctor says you don't think slower children are necessarily slow per se.

We had this but he was a he and the dress was snow white.
we traded for buzz lightyear and I now currently have a 9 year old emo.

Stick to the princess dress, its much nicer to look at. Bloody emo's.

The only thing that would concern me is that she might be somewhat constricted by a wearing a princess dress. It doesn't sound the sort of thing that she'd be comfortable in when playing messily, climbing trees and generally running about.

My DD is 4 and alternates between Alice, Cinderella and Rapunzel as the mood takes her. We just bought her the Belle christmas dress and she is all excited about it lol. She does know that there is a time and a place for wearing them though, (thankfully) and it sounds like your DD does as well OP, hence she only wears it at playtimes.

I say why not make the most of it while they are young - they're not going to be your 'Little Princess' for long...pretty soon they will be gothing up or dying their hair weird and wonderful colours
