he should keep it. he did not choose it for monetary gain he chose it to give to his daughter.

Hopefully Richard will still give it to his daughter and not sell it because of the value, which contrasts with his orignial intention.
Undoubtedly he has stumbled on a fortune and for the peace of his conscience ,which is why I believe he is asking this, he should inform the rest of his family; equally asking them to find out/declare if what they took has hidden value.
Whether his family reciprocate or not is not important, it's that he does what gives him inner peace. What does it profit a man to gain the world an lose his soul, how will he feel whenever he sees them again.
Hopefully his wife will appreciate the integrity displayed which is much more vaulable than money can buy.
