Make sure you deselect the scart lead before continuing to checkout. Also try typing the discount codes in rather than copy/paste. It does work as I purchased mine today.0 -
Also, don't forget the rental option.
I used Forbes Direct for 18 month contract. They wanted £49.99/month and £15 credit check up front. I gave them £39.99 a month and insisted no credit check charge.
You have to consider the residuals over this period. In my example it was a Philips 32" flat LCD, worth about £1500 at the time.
I paid a total of £719 over this period, when I reckon the TVs fell by up to £1000, so I believe I gained.
Following the rental you can then buy at much reduced prices, and better technology. You could also continue the rental agreement, and Forbes offered £31.99/month new price.
Don't discard rentals, as they can save you money with a new technology such as LCD.
This argument is similar to cars: whether to buy or lease, and often lease is better.0 -

I know what you are saying, but I think LCDs/plasmas have already now got to a price point that would make renting uneconomic?0 -
Yes they have fallen a lot, but the very best ones are well over 2 grand.
So the gain would be technological:
For example, my 32" has motion blur.
It takes forever to come on, while it system checks.
It will not display its native 1386x768 res using the DVI port, only 1186x768. The response time is no where near the new models @ 5ms. It is more like
20ms.
The contrast ratio is no where near the new ones at 1000:1. My TV is 300:1 or similar.
It has no HDMI port even though there is a HD ready sticker.
Also, there is TN film LCD, but new ones have MVA with "overdrive" and similar techniques to reduce motion blur.
There is passive matrix but new ones are active matrix.
Viewing angle is an issue, and newer LCDs have improved wider angle viewing.
For this reason, renting can be clever..0 -
Looks like the Dixons group have resolved any problems with Sony and are once again stocking Sony TV's online.
They currently have the What HiFi award winning Sony KDL-40w2000 40" LCD panel for £1498 (Item #393044).
Using the Egg 5% link
Add item to basket, then add the £3.99 scart cable (Item # 909882) to take the total above £1500.
Now apply the discount code (see discount voucher board) for sales over £1500 to take £100 off (expires 1st Feb).
Once the Egg instant cashback has been applied the total is down to just over £1330.
Unfortunately there is a £9.99 delivery charge (couldn't find any free delivery codes) but still the best price I can see.
Hope this helps anyone after this0 -
Anyone help please..
all i want is approx 26" with built in freeview and also connection so i can connecy a pc upto it but not sure what connection i need... ta..0 -
I have just bought the Acoustic Solutions 26" Freeview LCD from Argos for £280 (it's in the clearance section so maybe in limited supply instore - but showing in stock for delivery).
I wasn't expecting much really (especially as I had the 26" TWF from Sainsburys before at £350 which was really bad) - but it's pretty good. I'm really pleased with the quality of picture from the built-in Freeview tuner (the TWF was really poor, very blocky and a really bad EPG). I have also connected a PS2 through the component inputs and the picture here is also good. It even comes with a wall brasket in the box!
The negatives I have found are
1. it doesn't have a D-SUB PC input (although you can hook a PC up using the HDMI socket)
2. the front buttons are very poor quality (but I will just use the remote control anyway so not too bothered)
3. the poor-quality buttons light up with a blue LED when the TV is on standby (as this will be for use in the bedroom, this maybe off-putting and motivate me into turning it off at the mains!)
I was really looking for a 20" or 23" screen, but there is so little difference in the price of these (in fact it's hard to find one for under £280) against the 26" that it seemed a no-brainer to give this unit a go... and I'm glad I did.
Hope this helps and you can get hold of one if you need to.0 -
Wow thanks for that, seems like a good deal and with freeview built in.
it is for the daughters bedroom, so the light may be a bit of a negative but i'm sure she will get used to it, as for connecting her pc, how does this work through hdmi...??
thanks0
