DD problem with Natwest

I have a Natwest account where all my bills come out of from so I recently added British Gas and another company and I keep getting letters from them saying my DD is being cancelled from the bank.

Called Natwest they don't know where the poblem is everything on there side is fine.

But how can 2 diffrent companies have the same problem?

Any Ideas?

It's far too much of a coincidence to have two DDs mistakenly cancelled by two different companies ... so I'd expect that it's Natwest at fault.

What do Natwest have to say about how the DDs were cancelled? They should be able to say who cancelled it, i.e. you or the company.

I'd probably look at https://www.natwest.com/secure/global/contact_us/complaints_procedure.htm ... good luck, dealing with Natwest you'll probably need it!

You're not setting the new ones up from a savings account are you?

I've had similar problems with paymnts to my internet provider. I've lost count of the number of times I've set up a new order for the monthly payment - NatWest just seem to have a "blind spot" where that particular payee is concerned! Apart from that, I've got no other complaints about NatWest...

There was a time when Direct Debits and Standing Orders were allowed to be set up on savings accounts.

The bank have changed that now so it may have acted up if you tried to set one up.

Saying that though, I think I've come across this issue once before and it may have something to do with already having a direct debit/instruction for those companies with the same d/d reference.

I would say cancel all/any existing instructions for the direct debits from the bank, then get a new one setup with a new reference number if possible.

Yes it does make a difference, can you confirm which account type you have set the direct debit on?

I have a Firest Reserve Account, when I spoke to the team leader she confirmed that it should not make any diffrence to the direct debit as I already have 5 DD set up on it any way

    Incorrect.

Those 5 can stay seeing as though you have set them up before the T&Cs changed.

And that goes for standing orders aswell.
