Memory Foam or traditional mattress?

We used our Tesco points in MFI last year and bought a lovely bed base and memory foam mattress. The mattress was the top of the range one, with springs and a MF top. I can't recommend it enough, I love lay-ins now, I used to hop out of bed at 6am 'cos I couldn't stand laying on our old bed any more. Don't get so much done at weekends now...!
Pillows now, that is another thing though. We bought MF ones from ebay, DH loves his, I hate mine. His chiropractor says they are like Marmite, love it or loathe it.0 -

Bought a Rest Assured 2000 pocket sprung mattress with memory foam top in MFI sale 2 years ago.
Was £800
but that was less than half price.
Haven't regretted it, really good nights sleep, and also no need to turn the mattress. Still works a treat, and no roll-together because of the pocket springs! Looks as good as new.
Even got the bed with 2 different firmness ratings - my side's slightly firmer than my partner's.
Have never noticed being sweatier in summer, due to the foam top, but we do live in a chilly Edwardian house...
Can recommend it, if you can afford it. We'd set out to buy a new bed - with a budget of £400! Don't try a foam-topped pocket sprung bed in the showroom unless your wallet can cope! We were hooked within seconds of lying on one - but they do say you should spend money on a decent bed.
Who they are is anyone's guess. Bed salesmen, probably. :rolleyes:0 -
I spent about £1k about 3 years ago on a tempur mattress. I guess I'm in the minority here, but I wouldn't bother again. I hadn't had back problems before, but I do now, and it throws all of your body heat back at you so you absolutely roast all night!
Looking at some of the advice above, if you can trial one out, you should - just to be sure you really want it.0 -
I agree with Mytle77. I thought it was great for the first few weeks. Now still get backache, though probably not as much.
Still, it was a lot of money and now I wish that I'd got a good conventional mattress and saved a bit of cash.0 -
We got one, and our backs are a bit better. Main diff is that we have no roll together whatsoever which is really handy as I am a big bunter! We both sleep a lot better now.
Oh and yes it does reflect your heat back a bit which is lovely in the winter.0 -
John Lewis doing a good deal on the pocket spring plus memory foam mattress for £675 King size in their sale - Special Purchase. Went into store and tried it first. http://www.johnlewis.com/Clearance/Clearance/Bedroom/Mattresses/3949/230413833/Product.aspx
Go through Quidco as well and get approx £60 off as well. Ours arrives on Saturday.0 -

I agree with you and Myrtle.
The worst nights sleep I have ever had was on a Tempur mattress which belongs to a friend of ours. Stayed over one night and I thought it was dreadful!!
I also found it extremely difficult to turn over in the night without having to physically sit up to do so!!
I have had a water bed for the past 5 years and I personally find it to be bliss.
Lots of people find them a bit strange..but I have never suffered from back problems since buying it. It is heated to whatever temperature that you like and your whole body weight is supported. When life throws you lemons...put them in a gin and tonic !!0 -
Thanks Maple41 for info about John Lewis mattress. Been out and tried in shop, then come home, registered with Quidco and ordered.
OH and I have been moaning about our bed for years! Have only recently realised that it seems to be causing my constant back pain, because I had no symptoms on holiday.
Can't wait for it to arrive now!0 -
I've been thinking about buying one of these from MFI using my clubcard deals, but their prices are laughable. Double what you would pay anywhere else, and that's WITH a 50% plus 20% discount. A joke.0
