perhaps have a word with his teacher, and tell her everything is homemade rather than shop bought, so it doesn't have the extra sugar, fat and addititves that the store bought ones do.

Maybe you'll get asked to do a cookery demo for the kids!!

I've just copied your list MG - I lack inspiration when it comes to packed lunches and these look yummy.

DD2 is a fussy piece when I'm not standing over he and will only eat a few things BUT if I give her the same thing too often, she goes off it. Unless it's chocolate, of course. Fortunately she's in senior school where they don't police the lunchboxes so I make a chocolate tray bake and give her a small square each day. That way I can make sure it doesn't have any Frankenfats in. And as she is bordering on underweight I don't mind a few empty calories as long as I can make sure she gets enough nutrition when she is at home
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

    Rolls in Hooting with laughter.:D

Sugah (My drag-queen nutritionist friend) has just been on the phone and I have explained what happened. She / He's with your BTW - dinner lady saw cake not healthy home baking amongst a perfectly balanced healthy diet for a growing eleven year old boy.

This healthy eating "guru" then proceeds to request a batch of tablet for her birthday next week - for those non-Scots amongst us BTW -

Tablet = the crack cocaine of home baking. Totally irresistible, about 95% pure sugar and as addictive as **ll.

I've said of course I will make some - but if I catch her trying to sell it at the school gates I will shop her to the Drugs Squad :rotfl::rotfl:

Puts it all into perspective really

Maybe Sugah could do some nutritional education sessions at the school in return for the tablet :)
  • Sorry if this sounds out of order but exactly what does it have to do with the school WHAT you give your son for lunch? So long as he has food and eats it........sure school food should be healthy as in what they sell at school to model/teach about healthy diets but he is your son and what you feed him is your business.

I think rewarding (and by design punishing) children in relation to food is a bit suss to be honest.
    Nevertheless she persisted.

I am using the muffin mix at home as its rather sweet - so his school muffins were made with the chapatti flour, linseed oil and rasps with an egg. Next weeks are made with chappati flour, oats, apple, sultanas, cinnamon and egg........... they smell fabulous!!!!

His chosen menus for next week are:

HM Bread Roll, cheese, salad and mayo. Carrot sticks. Strawberries, peach, Oat muffin.

Pasta with tomato sauce. Box salad with barley. Twinks Hob Nob (made with half sugar as you all know how sweet they are)

HM Wholemeal tortilla wraps, guacamole, shredded veggies. Fruit salad, Oat muffin.

Yellow split pea dal, rice, HM chapatti, steamed broccoli. Banana and grapes. Hob Nob cookie.

HM Pitta bread, HM hummus, chopped carrots, chopped turnip, Oat muffin. (this is his favourite lunch BTW)

Actually, I'm thinking that I may start having his lunches too - cos they sound a lot nicer than my soup or leftovers choices :rotfl:

Didn't get more than a mouthfull back all last week on his packed lunches so I'm thinking I may have to up the portion size slightly anyway.

    Do you do deliveries:)
You may be right DS might have the wrong end of the stick. (I doubt it though) so a quiet word and roll of the eyes, tut and a laugh to the form tutor might be the way to go as a starting point and then keep an eye on it. I would still give the recipe though.
Better still how about printing off some little recipe cards and the link to your blog to put in his box, if anybody says anything about healthy options to him he can give them the card (hows that for a bit of marketing :rotfl:)
