I agree with you, I do think your parents are being unfair on you! Even when we become adults and have to fend for ourselves, so to speak, often people still get support/help from their family members!
If they are keen for you to earn your own money and get a job, they need to consider the fact that they chose to live far away from a place where a teen can easily get to work! I know as a mother of a 14 yr old I would not be happy with my daughter biking for over an hour there and back, especially in the winter months.
Some of the suggestions from pp are good if any of that type of work is available, if not I would have a serious talk with your parents and ask exactly how you are supposed to get a step up on te employent ladder with so many obstacles in your way! I wld love it is my DD was as eager as you to earn her own money and get a job! Best of luck!0 -

She explains on it that she is looking to do bits of work for people in the village to gain her some money for between finishing school and starting college in September. I think she also said that she will continue it on weekends and evenings come term time. She goes on to list things she may consider doing such as housework, ironing, garden chores such as weeding or mowing, babysitting, getting shopping, even dropping in on elderly relatives for people who are very busy to see if they need shopping or letters posting etc. I thought it seemed very resourceful - maybe you could do the same? Post flyers through local doors....?
Good luck (oh and i think your parents sound bloomin' pains LOL.... saying that, my little boy is only 6years so i may have changed my mind by the time he gets to your age hahaha!) :A
Oh and i lived in a pretty rural area (still do, just a different one lol!) and i hated having to rely on parents for lifts GRRRRRRR!!! I sympathise!! xx
That sounds like a good idea, thanks. LOL- you have all these arguments to come!0 -

tulipsandroses - I would really love to help you - you sound like such a nice kid! I live in a semi rural area and even here, opportunities for just 15yr olds are limited! where there is a will there is a way - can you give me some idea of your career plan (maybe theres something to start with there?) or your interests? hobbies?0

Awww, thanks
I have no hobbies per se. Ummm, I spend most of my time walking my dog and reading. Haha, you'd be able to tell I live in a rural area just from that! I'd like to go into social work in the future though0 -
walking dog, reading, and would like to go into social work. hmmmm obviously offer dog walking service as well as babysitting. reading doesnt really offer much on the face of it - but publishing houses use readers - offer your services to publishers of childrens books as a manuscript reader? that entails looking up publishers then emailing their editors!0

I used to work weekends and holidays at a boarding kennels and cattery as these tended to be the busiest times and the full time staff often wanted to have holidays or not be working every weekend. Any of these locally that you could try?
Good luck with your search0 -
Try at the pubs. You obviously won't be able to serve drinks but you could probably work either in the kitchen or as a waitress. My friend at school lived in a small village and got a job as a pub waitress from the age of about 15.0

I can understand your parents not wanting to be your only mode of transport to your job - what if they want to do something else are are ill, but feel pressured because they have agreed to drop you off and pick you up. I think it may be more about the inconvenience than wanting you not to be lazy and rely on them.
I second that at 15 your best bet is informal jobs for other neighbours then you can save enough money for a scooter when you're older. I also think that working on an evening at 15 is not ideal with the amount of homework you will start getting, a weekend job would be enough.
Also, don't rule out the pub - cleaner, glass collector, kitchen skivvy, all potentially OK for under 16.0
