If you can, in a calm way, say that you seem to be going round in circles with all this, and move on to ask if there are extra jobs you could do at home to earn money, you might get somewhere.

We're fortunate not to have this problem, but before DS3 got his bike he did seem to think that we were his personal chauffeur service and that he could be given lifts wherever and whenever at a moment's notice. It's not quite that simple as we have one car, and DH is often working into the evenings.

I wouldn't have wanted it to be assumed that we could make a regular commitment to giving a lift to any of mine without agreeing it with them first.

I used to stay in the country when much younger and I was able to do some gardening work, messages, babysitting for neighbours.

    Would that be possible?

    Erm...Messages?
  • It sounds like mum and dad aren't that keen for you to start working?

TBH, it sounds like communicating with your parents is causing you as much frustration as the issue of getting a job! Are you guys able to chat about it openly or does it turn into a disagreement quickly? If so, i wonder if there is someone (like an adult relative) that you might be able to ask to help you to chat to them? Sometimes its a little easier if there is an impartial 'outsider' who is able to mediate?

I must say i admire your attitude...great to see a 15 year old keen on working and taking so much trouble to find a solution...

    Hiya,

They're always on my case about getting a job. I've had to listen sooo many times that they both ahd jobs at 12/13 LOL.

It does turn into a disagreement quickly, yes. I think they'd see it as some sort of betrayal/ embarassment if I got somebody else involved though!

    Thank you :)

I *think* that means running errands. No idea where I know it from but must have read it somewhere,

Could you see if the local pubs want a pot washer? I am already pre-offering my sons services to our local landlords. I think a part time job at 15 is a great idea.

You may walk and you may run
You leave your footprints all around the sun
And every time the storm and the soul wars come
    You just keep on walking

I would like to know that too! or was it a typo and it should have read Massages? not sure I would want my 15yr old doing that!

saying that - there are job opportunities in very rural areas - farms sometimes need seasonal workers or are willing to pay minimum wage to teens for a couple of hours work before or after school and on weekends at busy times. BUT, they are hard to find and you have to be persistent! if you want to babysit, then put a card in EVERY possible shop/post office window and specify you have to be picked up and dropped off if over a certain distance from your home.

I for one DONT find it normal, or safe for a teen to cycle to work for more than 10 or fifteen minutes on country lanes, and after dark it can be lethal! only a townie would think thats reasonable!

I would say babysitting daytime weekends or night time, ironing, cleaning, car washing, gardening, window cleaning, painting are all options.

What about offering to sell other peoples items on ebay, taking photos and listing for a % of the selling price. I would use this service as dont have time to do it myself.

I was hoping it would be something like this...and not a typo for massages, now that would have been creepy!
Well, you learn something new everyday! Never heard it used in that way before.
