has the "300 latest posts" facility now gone ?????
can't live without it !0 -
Hey Guys,
We are always working to improve the efficiency of the site, and the last 300 post facility was actually a very heavy resource drain and used by very few people - it is not standard to the software we currently use and was implemented by one of our coders following the migration to vbulletin over 3 years ago.
We will endeavor to put this facility back if we can do so without it causing a noticeable drain on our machines and it is something we are looking at - however in the meantime i suggest that the new posts function is used which is a lot more efficient.
Sorry for any inconvenience.

neil, do appreciate your speedy response .
understand your comments but it does take all the ease away of using the site for me . I have always loggged on every couple of hours and just scanned down all the posts , just stopping to quikly read any that the title appealled.
Can't agree that " new post is lot more efficient ... as once you see a heading that may..if you understand its' relevance , be of interest .. you then have to click into the thread ,.. and if there's a few pages of posting , click to the latest one .
That's definitely more timetaking !!. .. and makes it much harder work .
(seem to recall a few years ago that a few of the long term loyal users were given a "fudged" way of getting 500 posts in detail .. can't something like that be done ?!

That sounds a rather selfish viewpoint to me, if the last 300 posts facility is causing forum performance problems for other users, who never use it.
:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
espresso ... not meant to be "selfish" ... but i'm just referrimng to the way i personally use the chat forum ... regularly glancing through the actual threads of the last 300 posts .. that's how i get the best use .. and the knowledge i've learnt from this is invaluable and i'm very grateful .
Always suprised that apparantely that style of format isn't very popular . For me it's an important part of my daily routine and i miss it.0 -
pennymakespounds, If you read what has been stated "the last 300 post facility was actually a very heavy resource drain and used by very few people" your reply still sounds very me, me, me! as you seem to ignore the performance issue.
I believe that the vast majority of forum users would like to actually see the benefit of the recent upgrades to the forum platform and not have it slowed down by a heavy resource drain, that is used by very few!
I still don't understand why the chronological order of posts across all boards is so important to you. Sorry but I think that this is a case of the majority rules OK. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
espresso , don't really understand why you think i don't have a simple right to comment on how i use this site .. of course it's "me" .. i'm not going to comment on "your" use am I ??
I'd have thought i was making a very simple ctatement , that previously i was able to glance down a page of postings , looking at the headings .. and if interested, or wanted to know more .. i could then quickly just start reading the actual posting that was shown with it .... compared to today ... i can only see the headings ... which often don't say much about the content .. and to know more i have to click into the thread and maybe again to get through the pages to the last post... then have to do the 2 or 3 clicks backwards again to get back to the main list .
Clearly nothing like as "user friendly" .
My original comment still stands . ..........i

Yes but yet again you have conveniently missed the point highlighted in bold in post #17, which is the reason that it was removed from the forum!
End of.
:rotfl::doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
back off !! .. i'm not missing the point at all.... ok, the site is saying it is a techie problem .... ok so that's the answer .....and i .. and others are not able to use the site in that way anymore .
totally seperate .......to the point i was making and you keep quibbling about .. that i found the previous style extremely user friendly .
Freedom of thought .. freedom of speech !
end of. !0 -
another appeal for the return of the "300 recent posts" facility.
seems that i've stopped using the site now ... as just having the post header line on the todays posts section is often meaningless .. and just don't have the time or inclanation to then have to click into the thread to see what it's all about.
really feel as though i'm missing out on loads of knowledge .. as glancing through the 300 posts 3 or 4 times a day really taught me a lot.0
