    Most companies use "scone"
    its A S.C.O.N.E
    you missed A for Approach.
But O is the most important part.
Their is a new trend in shoplifting and thats allowing themselves to be spotted then dumping the goods then suing for assult and battery, False imprisonment, injury and distress by no win no fee solicitors.
My OH's company are providing a lot of various security roles for the olympics, the first event being a test cycle race on the 14th of august.
Every time citizens arrest is mentioned in his training, the police officers advice is to never use it and try to use Transactional analysis..P-A-C model (parent, adult, child) ego state dialogue to detain them until the police can attend and then arrest for refusing, fail or obstructing an accredited person.
He has 7 badges at the moment and has just passed a Met Police Counter Terrorist Check, we joke he's had more vetting than our dog.:rotfl::rotfl:

i hate when people come in the palce i work and get their kids to shop lift as it harder to get them arrested if they are only 3 but it clear what happening.

I salute anyone who confronts a thief but myself having worked in retail many years ago and being 6'9 and very well built still had to be cautious over which thieves I approached. Anyone can carry a knife and i'd rather see the goods gone than my life.

I hate people that train their kids to steal - what kind of life is that child going to have growing up that way? so sad to see
  • No me I hasten to say! However I went to Asda late on last Wednesday evening and only got a few bits so went to the self service till. This man came and stood right up next to me in the till aisle and his enormous cases of lager kept bumping into my stuff. Anyway I paid for my stuff and he was still inches behind me and as I was packing my stuff he said "hurry up!" As I walked away he was still inches behind me and I realised that he was robbing two big things of lager. He must have thought that they would think we were together and I was paying. As soon as he got through the door he was off! No alarm went off so I told the security guard who thought it was funny and didn't seem the slightest bit bothered!

Well he maybe pretty desperate, perhaps he is alcohol dependant
and will die if he does not have enough to drink like Amy Winehouse did.

Consider yourself lucky you are not him and don't be a tell-tale.

How is this being a tell tale. Stealing is wrong period. if it happened to me I would be less than pleased

oh dear - please don't feed the troll.

my sister used to work in bhs and had one lady go into the changing rooms a normal size and come out looking pregnant, doing the whole holding her back routine and everything. my sis and the store detective followed her and then gave chase when she left the store, lots of tutting and people feeling sorry for this woman until she took her coat off and she had half the ladies wear department strapped to her front!

Years ago a young lad collecting the trolleys in a store in our town was attacked & killed when trying to help stop a shoplifter.

I walked out of Tesco last week with a security tag still attached to a pair of shorts I had bought and one inside the box of a fan I bought too. No alarm went off as we left the store. They were bought at a store that was a drive away from us but when we returned them to the Tesco near us to get the tags removed the alarm went off as we entered.

Bit pointless having tags on things if they are not going to alert security to things being 'stolen'. Not sure about the tags but I was told that the boxes that dvds, video games and things like that are put inside have to be activated to ensure that they set the alarm off and that not every box is activated only some of them. Another waste of time, why put them in the boxes if your not going to activate them.

  • in retail shoplifting is part of life, which is why im getting out of retail! the boxes for cd's dvs's etc are called safers. they do not need any activating at all, the tag is built into the plastic and is not removable on 99% of them. they are not electronic and cant be activated/deactivated. they can be prevented from working though, a common trick is foil lined bags, which deflect the security gates from the tag.
