£17.00 quote for broadband

I understand its to do with where I live (only 30 miles from London, but hey). Just got a £17.00 quote for broadband from sky. My DD gets it practically free. About £20 for phone, tv & BB, an extra £10 for phone-line.

I don't really understand all the tech terms.

Will mine become cheap like about 85% of the population in time? As they upgrade lines?

It sounds like you are being offered Sky Connect, this is a rebadged BT product generally regarded as being awful.Poor speeds peak time throttling.
The reason for this is that your exchange has not got any Sky/Easynet equipment at it. This is called local loop unbundling.
If you do an exchange search on the Samknows website you can find out if there are any LLU operators their.

In the case of exchanges serving small populations its doubtful whether it would ever be economic for operators other than BT to be available.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

You are talking about Plusnet value here.
Unfortunately the £6.49 only applies if you are in a Market 3 exchange and as you have not got any LLU services at your exchange I guess you are Market 1 or 2.

You will therefore have to pay a higher price which I think is £11 or £12 ish. If you go on the plusnet site you can check availability on youer phone number and get the correct price.

Just called AOL, I will have cheap services in September (some monopoly thing with BT exchanges).
They will do my BB for £7 pm then, & given me the next two months free until the cheap deals arrive:D

Are you with AOL at the moment then?
I'd get it in writing to be sure.

Had some hassle with this as well - told we were very very far away from the exchange (actually 300 metres) - so the talk talk £3.50 package was £34 which just followed on from every other provider - so just bought a dongle for a quid at car boot sale and a 3 pay as you go SIM (12GB or 12 months) for £51.49 plus quidco - now that is a wee bargain.

This looks to be too good to be true, the AOL website www.aolbroadband.co.uk/
Shows a package with only evening and weekend calls costing just over £19, £14.09 is very cheap but if true must be a bargain.

Are AOL making false assumptions on how much the BTW charge to ISPs is being reduced on Market 1 & 2 exchanges??
