    £299 at my local Toysrus.

Same here! Rang one of the stores listed in your post, although sold out, I still asked for the price and he said £299.

    You sure about this OP?

Sorry, thats rubbish. Any hard drive is as likly as an other to fail, if its in a mac or a PC.

Neither hard drive failed they were fubar'd by the OS. First on the upgrade to XP SP2 which failed and on a later occasion. You need to read more carefully before replying. Data recovery costs were in the region of £1500 and couldn't be guaranteed so hardly worth the cost.

I distinctly recall typing "Neither platform is trouble free in my experience". Oh look there it is in my earlier post!

If neither failed then data should be recoverable. I ran a computer shop and would charge £75 to recover data using recovery software. You only pay £1500 if something happens like the disk wont spin etc.

You saying "Neither platform is trouble free in my experience" doesn't stand for anything against what i said. I was only saying that data recovery was PROPERLY doable (and a hell of alot cheaper that £1500!).

What exactally was the problem with the hdd's? If you were getting a blue screen, its far from fubar'd!

Neither I nor MS 3rd level support ever found out and they tried over a period of 8 days. Its history now.

And for anyone who's interested these Solo's CPU can be replaced with a Core Duo.

Wrong actually, Mac Mini CPUs are soldered onto the motherboard

The iMac and MacBook can be replaced and the laptops too but not the Mac Mini

Sorry, you're wrong. http://hdtv.o0o.it/mini/ and http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=91459 have guides on how to do it. No soldering required. Standard Socket 479.

Rubbish, many people have upgraded them and they are solderless.

Definitely £199 in Glasgow (reduced from £299) but none in stock. Asked what other stores would have them and he checked on system and said they only ever had around 130 of them in total and about 60 of them would have gone on display. Said system showed only 4 stores still had stock of this model and it would be that price.

With several different models with varying specs of Mac Minis over the time it may be there is/was another version still at £299. Dunno, but Glasgow definitely had them priced on the system as £199 - I triple checked as I picked my chin off the floor before finding out they didn't have any available. Sorry you didn't have any success.

As for those commenting on it being solo rather than core, etc etc - it's an apple desktop with intel chip less than one year since launch for under £200 - if you can get one or one of the display models you shouldn't even need to think twice about it!
