As of 9.30 this morning 4 Toys R Us stores each had one of these for £199! -Lincoln, Solihull, Derry & Ilford. Others may have display models but I couldn't persuade Glasgow to sell me their display one. Thought about trying to get John Lewis to pricematch but I think they've already moved up to the 1.66Ghz version at £400 plus.
Sorry I don't have any more specs on it but it's a great little piece of kit and if you get desperate you can even install windows on it.
Fantastic bargain if any of you are near these stores but call first and reserve it!

Was this one of the 4 stores I mentioned? If not it may be a slightly different model - different RAM / HD / CD/DVD options etc. Edinburgh had a higher spec in stock (but at a much higher price).
The guy in Glasgow said there were only those 4 that had the particular version in stock and it should be £199 - although I guess some may not have marked it down if all they had was the display model (from the couple of stores I spoke to they don't sell the display models normally - guess it's a perk for the staff?)0 -
These are ace!!!! I had one a couple of years ago to introduce myself to the world of mac!!! Never looked back!!!

Great little machines, but be aware that the 1.5ghz model is a core solo & not a core duo (the core duo is supposedly like having processors on a single chip) and appear to have been discontinued by Apple.
Also Apple has one of it's major product launches in Jan & I expect that they will move all machines to Core 2 Duo (that's supposed to be like having 4 processors on a chip !! although the performance is not like having 4 real processors. but you catch the drift ) .
So basically before you go rushing to buy one check the specs and do a bit of research, but ultimately buy a mac for trouble free computing .
Hope this helps0 -

I wouldn't say it's a major product launch as the imac, macbook and pros are already on Core 2 Duos since last year0 -
Neither platform is trouble free in my experience. At least with a Mac I haven't lost a whole hard drive's worth of stuff as I have with XP on two occasions.cheapskate58 wrote:Or buy a pc for trouble-free, compatible computing:D

And for anyone who's interested these Solo's CPU can be replaced with a Core Duo. Roll on Macworld on the 9th....0 -
Sorry, thats rubbish. Any hard drive is as likly as an other to fail, if its in a mac or a PC.Sui_Generis wrote:Neither platform is trouble free in my experience. At least with a Mac I haven't lost a whole hard drive's worth of stuff as I have with XP on two occasions.

Maybe the OS corrupted it's self, but there are plenty of ways to get the data back.
You also should always keep a backup no matter what brand of computer hardware you have. Anything can break, including macs
