    Happy Left Handers day everyone!

I am one of those lefties who wrties 'over the top' of the page so as not to smudge the writing, I remember one particualr teacher when I was about 10 making me sit behind and practise writing like a right hander would 'normally' do. Until she realised it was a complete waste of time.

I have the paper i'm writing on in "lanscape" and I write down the way... then turn it to portrait so other people can read it. It's the only way I can write in a straight line and not smudge it all. :D

Oddly enough, my mum bought me a left-handed can opener years ago and I couldn't use it for toffee, too many years of being used to adapting to right handed ones. I also eat right handed as my mum didn't really realise when I was learning to use a knife and fork, when I was little I did have a bad habit of using my knife to push food apart rather than cut it (thankfully have addressed that now :o) Oh, and when I learned the guitar, I naturally picked it up like a right hander - odd eh?

:rotfl::rotfl: Glad you got that one sorted. I haven't! I use the knife to hold the food and the fork to drag it apart. I get confused trying to do it any other way! :o :rotfl:

And I can't use left-handed scissors even though right handed ones hurt! Though I did have to buy proper left handed scissors for cutting fabric as I was ruining so much material as the blade was the wrong way round for me! (At least, that's the excuse I'm sticking too!)

Frodo and all the other left-handers out there.... this wee shop might help: http://www.anythingleft-handed.co.uk/shop.html

Todays is NSD 6. I am declaring it now because I am hungry and lazy but it will just as easy to cook my dinner (as long as I don't have to use my reight-handed peeler ;)) than go out and get takeawy!

Evening all! well my 'I'm just going to mow the lawn' earlier turned into mowing the lawn, trimming the hedges at the front, cutting some dead wood back down the side of our garden, fixing some broken wood (though the fix wood is a lot lighter than the other stuff so prob just a temp job), reseeding some of the patchy lawn, watering the garden, emptying out the shed and giving that a good tidy and a trip to the tip as well. Oh, and I hoovered out both cars too .... 6hrs later, i'm pooped!

Was v.impressed with myself for getting over the 'spider issue' in the shed, turns out there were only a couple in there really, just lots of old cobwebs. Less impessed with the large amount of mouse droppings I found in one corner  no wonder our cat is always sniffing about there. There's no food and all the droppings were well dried so hopefully however was squatting has moved on .... actually, I just put the remaining grass seed in there...perhaps I should move it out again.

On the up side, it means I've had zero time to spend today so declaring NSD #7 :j Off to chuck my manky clothes in the wash and have a nice hot soak in the bath....something tells me I'm going to be a bit achy tomorrow.

ps Nargle, Hubert errr....'left' something in my garden last night, ....I've dug it into the flower beds so it's not gone to waste :D

totally unexpected NSD for me today - so that takes me up to #5 I believe

Not a good day though :(

After a lot of 'humm-ing' and 'ha-iiiing' about whether or not he fancied taking his chances on the weather he finally decided to take the risk, so the dog and I went over to pick him up. He was planning on using a SatNav to find the place (which was within distance for the fuel in the car, so no liquid gold spend required and we were leaving too late to need a picnic so no sandwich materials needed either) and they drive me nuts so I passed him the keys to my car (he is on my insurance) and we set off. But after only a short way he changed his mind over our destination - all because I don't let the dog off the lead due to him having no recall whatsoever with me.

During the course of the walk (our first time doing something 'normal') the fact I'm trying to rehome the dog came up in conversation, and he went very quiet after that. And then when we got back to his he said something that also got my back up a bit.....

So had the shops still been open when I got back it wouldn't have been an NSD as I'd have been stocking up on jam doughnuts, cream cakes and chocolate......

Won't be seeing him again until Friday at the soonest and need to have a serious think before then - so if I'm not on here for a day or three don't worry about me :)

Oh dear Cheryl, here's a :coffee:and a :grouphug: to go with those doughnuts you'd wish you'd bought, sounds like you need both. I wasn't aware that you were thinking of rehoming 'dog' but something like that is a very personal decision and sometimes it can be the best for both parties.

btw, personally I can't understand why chap decided to change destination due to you not letting dog off the lead - it seems a totally responsible action if you know he doesn't respond to recall - my friends sis keeps their dog on a long lead as he has 'issues' with some kinds of people so it's safer for all - incl dog if he's kept on a lead at all times.

    Hi lovely NSD gang:A
As you can see there is lots of activity on this challenge at the moment and it's difficult sometimes to see how many NSDs you're all declaring on posts.
Could I ask you to highlight your number of NSDs in a colour and in bold so that I can see them easily when I whizz through the posts - red would be best but I don't really mind as long as I can see the numbers easily.

Some helpful suggestions and ideas to follow below from our sponsor and godmother, BigMummaF :A
    NO SPEND CHALLENGE.

    1. Have a good, long think about what YOU want to include in your Spend & Excluded categories.
Some of us count everything from Direct Debits & school expenses, while others do not include things like essential Bills or emergency medical costs. If you plan what is or is not a Spend for you now, it will help you decide on a realistic Target.
    2. It is NOT a race!
We all have very different demands on our time & bank balance, so please do not think you have to buy everything on 1st January & make it last till 31st December! A few of us have been following this Challenge for a long...long...LONG time so have developed plans & ploys to help us along the way wink2.gif
    3. Most important of all, WE..DO..NOT..FAIL!
Sometimes we can't quite reach our Target, but that is fine :) Everyone knows how Life will try to trip us up, & that is when you will find us here to help you back on to your feet.

OK, an idea of how some of us do things.
    1. What you will or will not include as a 'Spend'.
Some people are doing other Challenges too, & don't include the money spent on those for this one.
Some will try to shop for other bits on the days their direct debits etc go out of their bank accounts; they're the real hard core of the bunch sport-smiley-003.gif & have been l-o-n-g time Nsders so don't panic :p
Some won't count those annoying last minute demands from school & collections as you can't plan for them in advance, likewise emergency prescriptions or visits to the vet :(
Personally speaking & providing I don't buy anything else, I don't count parking for hospital appointments.(..but then I usually do my shopping because I'm already out )
General thoughts on €bay sales is the buyer has paid P&P so no cost to you :D
    2. It takes Time to reach mega-numbers!
The First suggestion is the first, because a bit of planning will work wonders on your road to your Target. Have a look at Solvent's (aka Spoon:rotfl:) first posts each month for a hefty list of other Threads that may be of help. For example, there's a few giving ideas for packed lunches so you can avoid standing in the queue at the bakers for 45mins of your lunch hour! A good incentive to tweak your healthy eating & the pounds you save will show in your bank balance AND your waistline action-smiley-076.gif
It helps to have various 'money pots' for the different costs that happen like Scouts, dinner money, yoga, window cleaner etc etc. The idea is you "spend" all that money in one hit by....
let's say **putting the week's bus fares into the pretty coffee jar, Jo's tumble tots SIZE=2]Weds mornings[/SIZE in the cracked teapot & Ben's £1 coin for the gym locker SIZE=2]Friday lunch[/SIZE in the pocket of the changing bag, on Tuesdays every week when you've got some change from doing the food shop, so an already spendy day. At least four 'spending days' condensed into one ;) (**mine's jam jars for windows, milkman & a bit towards the bills!)
    3. Any day the money stays in your pocket is a bonus!
If you look at it as a day you beat the system, you can't help but :j so don't fret it--ENJOY! If nothing else in here, we do manage find something to make us smile :D

We have virtual outings to wonderful places that never cost us a bean :rotfl:New York, Edinburgh & Brighton have been a couple & Spoon usually pilots the Tardis but you can use your own transport; my personal favourite has been a sit-on lawn mower borrowed from the cricket club :D The only thing to be aware of is Hubert the donkey who is partial to anything remotely edible but is not yet house-trained :o

    And Remember;
there are no silly questions, so don't be afraid to ask us anything!

I wasn't aware that you were thinking of rehoming 'dog' but something like that is a very personal decision and sometimes it can be the best for both parties.

I've had him registered with a Dalmatian rehoming group for over 12 months - but they're not assessing them until they think they may have found a home, as they've more dogs and less potential homes since he recession than they've ever had before.

I don't really have the time for him, and could do without the £50/month food bill and the routine vaccinations as well.

Added to that is the issue of the recall - hubby and my boys didn't have a problem with him over that or issues with reactions to other dogs, so he's clearly a man's dog and needs a male in the household.

And if I were faced with another large emergency vets bill I'd be pushed to find the money - but I'd feel terrible if I had to tell the vet to put him to sleep for lack of money when a 'simple' operation would give him a very good chance of recovery...... smacks of irresponsible ownership to me
