    As for lie detectors, maybe not the Police but a few years ago all the papers were suggesting that insurance companies do use a basic software programme to detect dodgy claims:

    It's very unlikely to be true, but they've just turned a legit claim in the a fraudulent claim and I'm pretty sure it's also a crime to file a false police report.
