  • I see people are putting in that they are saving money (eg not using a cleaner, cancelling gym membership etc) and using this for the challenge, does this really count as its not exactly making money just saving what we already have?

good luck to those of you in the weight loss challenge!!
finally debt free and want to keep it that way!!

It is all money making in a way - everyone has different things that they can do. For example, some people are doing extra overtime - I can't do this because I am self employed so it doesn't matter how many hours I do in the day, the money does not relate to it!

So for me, that is not an option but if my cleaner fails to show up when expected, then I unexpectedly have £25 in my hand that I can put in the pot.

The main idea surely is that people are focusing on how to raise, one way or another, an amount equal to their chosen target. As long as we all come out of it with a lump sum that we wouldn't otherwise have had, does it really matter about the finer details?

By the way, put a claim in yesterday for £4500 bank charges, but won't include this in the challenge should I receive it, otherwise game over!!

I don't think that counting money because the cleaner didn't turn up counts but I think that cancelling the cleaner because of this challenge would count. Does that make sense?

    think thats right

i think that if we manage to put any money in our virtual pots that we wouldnt have ....things that we are specifically going out of our way to do...for this challenge then we can count it...if i were to do a minimal shop but eat out of the cupboards week...which i dont normally do then the money i gain i would like to put in the pot for example....i am intending to walk to school so i will save £5 on petrol each week...i would also like to count that for the challenge

views and opinions from others always welcome

as i see it there are no losers here cos any money anyone saves or gains makes anyone a winner...even if we dont meet the targets then we can still gain...im also going to down grade some of my shopping to value ranges and count that....cos im doing it for this challenge.....

if the cleaner doesnt turn up then its just something thats happened beyond our control but if we cancel the cleaner then we have had a say in the matter so therefore the money can count

  • Does this count? I had £12 to buy an ironing board, dad bought me one for £17 and would only take £5 from me. So I have a better item than the one I saved for and still have £7 thanks to dad. Can I count the £7?

I was going to ask the same thing... not that I have anything to put on eBay right now!

Maybe we could use one of these depending on what challange we're on:

    2007MSEgoldolympicchallenge
    2007MSEsilverolympicchallenge
    2007MSEbronzeolympicchallenge

    OR one for all:

    2007MSEolympicchallenge

    What does everyone think?? :D
