god, I really need to get a handle on matched betting. I placed a bet which they told me on teh MB thread was an 'arb' so I was well chuffed. When it came to the end of the match though, only £2 was taken from my account not the £4 (£2 on each bet) so I lost it. Dunno how it went wrong, but can't seem to follow it at all and have £8 in my betfair account to use up!

    Hi SC

Those sound like very small numbers - were you going for a free bet with a bookie? What did you bet on?

If I were you I would ignore arbing - concentrate on the simpler freebets - if you get an arb in a qualifer then great - but you are really making the money on the freebets.

The basic principle is that you bet twice - once with your own money - the qualifier - and then with the free bet. (Some bookies have more complicated qualifiers than that but that will come - stick to the basics first). You expect to lose a little on the bet with your own money - but you bet and lay at as close odds as possible to minimise this loss. Then you get the free bet. Here is where you make the money - again you will lose a little of the stake but you are still in overall profit.

As an example - I have just done the coral offer. I staked £50 of my own money first at odds of 2.875/2.88 (coral/BF). That lost me £1.74 but gave me a £50 free bet. I then staked the free bet at 3/2.98 (coral/BF) giving me a return of £48.63 on the freebie. Overall profit on this MB = £48.63-£1.74 = £46.89! Coral returns the free stake with winnings (SR) so could use lower odds. If the stake is not returned on the free bet (SNR) then you need much higher odds (7+) to get the best return. Coral is a good one to start with - big freebie, SR and with no playthrough requirements to get the money out.

Feel free to PM if you like and I will try to help - am no expert but am managing the basics profitably!

Have done very well on matched betting yesterday/today....and was planning on adding another £50 on the goals Tottenham will almost certainly concede against Man Utd this afternoon.......only to find Betfair has gone down with severe technical problems. Have rung them and they don't know when it'll be fixed.

Just noticed that - was planning to move along my Bet365 qualifer . At least I managed to get the coral one through before that and a few other qualifiers.

Do you have an account at another exchange? You could lay at Betdaq or Mansion perhaps?

Sadly not.....am a huge betfair fan so have never bothered with anyone else. Am absolutely gutted. It was working fine earlier. I picked up a quick £20 on Celtic earlier and was all set to make another £50 until this ...

Not happy....AND only one of my ebay listings sold and the profit has probably been wiped out by listing fees. Hey ho :o

Can I include money gifted to me? Just receive a surprize cash gift present from a relative and after a zero new money week looking to make up for it this week.

Quick question to expert ebayers - how often does ebay do the 10p listing days?

    Thanks

I think ebay average the 10p days around once every 6 weeks or so, usually on Tuesday or Thursdays which presumably are their slowest days for sales.

  • Just had a (cheapish!) night away with a friend and come back to find an ebay sale and an amazon sale. Another ebay sale should be finishing shortly. I'm addicted to this selling lark!!

Just wondering as this is going to be a six month thing if it's possible to make the entire thread a sticky?? Then lazy people like myself won't have to keep scanning for it!

  • Had a good week this week, got paid my overtime and received a cheque back for the outstanding tax on my car (it's gone to the big scrap-heap in the sky). Sold some books on e-bay, GM & Amazon and found 20p - well it all helps!

Good luck for everyone next week.
