Thanks again everyone who posted advice. I was reading the bobdole thread & Im scratching my head as to how can these scam artists are allowed to go to smallclaims / moneyclaims when no losses occurred.
In my case it was a FREE car park anyways. i.e no tickets need to be bought or displayed on dashboard. I was talking to a friend about this & he told me he got a ticket through the post for parking in a morrisons car park & he paid the £80 or so. I told him that if he gets a ticket like that again, not to pay it.
The sad thing in my friends case is, these conniving PPC criminals said he was in the car park all day, when he actually did 2 visits to the morrisons during the same day. As they have cameras taking photos when you go in & leave, they mustve seen he left in between the time they say but they sent him photos when he first entered & when he left on the 2nd visit.
I hope these criminals rot in hell.0 -
ok, thats better mrnobody,,hopefully that means you have now been converted, and not to waste your time by doing anything, and continue to ignore, ignore, and ignore.0

Complain to the supermarket that thanks to harassment by a contractor you shall no longer be shopping there instead shopping at *name local competitor*. Ignore the PPC, it's a free car-park so the landowner has suffered nil damages0

I'm with you here as you are obviously a law abiding citizen.Ive read advice on the forum to 'ignore' anything from Civil Enforcement Ltd.
However Im worried sick, feel sick & cant eat nor sleep
These companies are acting within the law, sending you a request for payment in compensation for a civil breach of contract.
You will feel better, as a law abiding citizen, by writing to them and asking them to send you further information before you can consider their claim which is disputed.
Proof of identity of the driver(s) that a) entered and b) exited the car park.
Proof that their signs exist and were clearly visible at the entrance to the car park and from the bay where the car was parked on the day in question.
Proof of how the driver was made aware, or could reasonably have been expected to be aware, that he or she was entering into a contract to pay for the use of the car park.
Sight of their letter of authority to collect fees on behalf of the owners of the car park.
Breakdown of how the losses which they are claiming have been calculated.
Once you have posted the letter you will feel much better about not paying them and in my experience you are unlikely to hear anything further.0 -

You will get back a letter saying "after careful consideration we have decided to reject your appeal, the amount owing has now doubled"0 -

That may well work except its missing one major factor the recipients of the letter are idiots, whose only aim is too extort money from you.
I would wager if the OP sent that request they would get back a template letter totally irrelevant to the request and asking for even more money!!
I have tried the reasonable approach, in the past but the rubbish you receive in return makes it pointless. My last letter worked however. One sentence, "If you think you have a case I will see you in court". Never heard from my friends again!0 -

That may well be true but they are in business and have to operate within the law.
Ignoring a perfectly reasonable request for information to substantiate their disputed claim, and making further excessive demands for payment would probably cross the line.
In the one letter I wrote, I did say that any further demands for payment while the matter was in dispute would be treated as harrassment and reported as such.
It cost me a stamp and I have heard nothing further in over 6 weeks.0 -
You're quite within your rights to ignore an invoice for an unsubstantiated debt. There is no line.0

Having been on the receiving end of CEL & Newlyn plc's meaningless threats myself, I seriously doubt that you are dealing with the same outfits.
I'm more than happy to be corrected on this point of course, therefore would you kindly clarify the situation in order to save confusing the OP as well as others.0 -

Yes, it was a different company but the principle is the same.0
