Ebay item never arrived

I was wondering if anybody could offer advice? I ordered an item off Ebay at the end of last month, and it's not arrived, nearly a month later. The seller assures me they sent it, and they're a 'top rated' seller. Do I have to pursue the seller, or the Post Office with this, and how do I go about it? I've never had to deal with anything like this before.

The item (silver coin) was about £30, maybe not a lot to some, but it's a lot to me. Any advice is very appreciated.

    Did you pay via Paypal??
    Did the postage not include "signed for"??
    No need for you to contact the Post Office, your issue is with the seller.
    You need to put in a claim.

    Just bung in a paypal claim, but do it now as you have waited long enough. Log into paypal and open a claim, do not let it send you back to do an ebay one, read the screens and stick with a paypal chargeback for item not received.

    Postage was 'Standard' and yes it was paid via Paypal.

    Is it Paypal Resolution centre I need to use? I'm there now.

    A bit late with this response but yes that's where you needed to be.
    It amazes me how many top rated sellers have in their t&c's that they aren't responsible for lost or damaged post.
  • The first thing to do isn't make a claim, the first thing to do is tell the seller it's now lost and you'd please like a full refund. If that doesn't happen fairly quickly, then put in a claim.

    Considering regular posters on here know what Royal Mail are like and know what damage these open cases can do (not to mention put a seller's back up which may cause the buyer more problems with rude emails, no excuse for this but that's not the point) it's surprising the answer to these types of questions is just 'put in a claim'.

    How about asking if contact has been made directly asking for a refund? Asking if the buyer has checked their address is correct? As it's a £30 coin maybe the seller sent it tracked and it's sitting at the local sorting office?

    It amazes me how many top rated sellers have in their t&c's that they aren't responsible for lost or damaged post.

    Where has that been stated here? Why is there the perception that the seller isn't interested in resolving? Yes the OP has waited a month but there's been no mention of when they were assured it was sent, that could have been 3 weeks ago for all we know.

    I think its a pretty safe assumption that the OPs contact has been recent. If the seller hasnt offered a refund after a month once they have been informed the item is missing they obviously aren't interested in refunding. Customers shouldn't have to chase for a refund it should be pretty obvious to the seller or they shouldnt be selling.

    If the time scale assumptions are correct the OP should put in a Paypal claim. If sellers cant be arsed to give good CS they only have themselves to blame when cases are opened against them

  • That's all based on assumptions, a direct request for a refund only takes a second and there is still plenty of time for a claim to be made.

    For example some people chase their order after a couple of days and you don't hear anything until they come back two weeks later to say it didn't arrive, I'm not going to check every day to see if it turned up.

    How long does it take to question those assumptions on this thread before giving advice? It seems some posters just take pleasure in jumping in with 'open a dispute' without taking a moment to gather the full info before giving advice.

    The OP may have contacted the seller yesterday and the seller may deserve to have a dispute opened, but at the moment we don't know either way.

    Ludovico it never hurts to ask the seller outright for a refund, but the response as stated in the OP rather suggests the seller has already been contacted and is happy that they have sent the goods. As selelr will not be able ot make a claim for loss from RM on thi sitem (it is a coin and unlikely to be covered standard mail) it does seem that it might be problematic.

    Since OP said they went through the motions, they are no longer at that stage.

    They are also running out of time and if the seller decided to stonewall them further they would have lost £30.

    I know your concern but really, I think you should read the OP more closely.

    Sellers like that deserve, in my opinion, to have their account dinged. Sorry to be harsh and all, but there's a simple matter of looking after the customer properly or facing up to the consequences.
