I'm currently with Wanadoo (Original Freeserve with no monthly fee, just call costs @1p.p.m).  My telephony is via cable (Telewest).  How do I get a good deal on broadband without neccessarily using Telewest's BB facility but still using their cable?  We're moderate net users and up to this point have not felt that the outlay/monthly fees for BB outway what we currently pay for our current connection

In reply to this - I would certainly give Telewest a call and hint very strongly that you are thinking of cancelling your cable phone service (and TV if applicable) and returning to BT.

Ask what the cancellation terms are (eg 30 days notice) and they will take you seriously.

They will ask why you are thinking of leaving them and as long as you have a valid reason ......then they will usually make a big effort to keep you as a customer.

    eg

    - you are looking at Metronet broadband for £11.75 per month and need a BT line for this

    - and you are thinking of moving to SKY for TV etc

After a bit of bargaining...they eventually offered me 1 years unlimited dial up service for FREE
(I told them I was insulted by their offer of 1 month free line rental !)

This meant I stayed as a cable phone customer - which is good for their user statistics and I was happy with the offer of free dial up internet access (saving me about £10 per month)

The key thing is to be firm with them and don't feel obliged to accept their first offer

Tell them what you'll accept to convince you to remain as a loyal customer. You'll be amazed how helpful they can suddenly be.

    2 extra points:

    1) They originally told me they had no discretion....after a bit of nagging they suddenly decided that they can do deals.

    2) Before calling - check out the special offers they have available to all customers.....as they will probably try and offer you one of these initially and pretend its a special deal for you !

  • I am not new to this site but this is my first posting. Felt I had to share the credit card/internet deal I have been enjoying for over a year now.
I have AOL broadband silver at £19.99 per month, before that I had standard AOL at £15.99 per month. I also have an AOL credit card (supplied by MBNA). You acquire a point for every £ spent which can be exchanged for your AOL internet access. I have not paid for my internet access for over a year now. How cool is that COMPLETELY FREE internet access. You also receive points for balance transfers, but you will have to be watchful as you usually pay per transfer, which depending on your balance transfer will cancel out the free internet deal. The AOL credit card are continually trying to better other cards and I have just received another 6 months 0% deal with them. I paid £35 transfer fee but as my limit is high, I get loads of points which pays for the internet and no interest on my balance for six months. I had only just transferred my balance from AOL as my 9 months 0% deal had finished. So worth a look at least if you are prepared to do the sums first. It certainly works for me. Good Luck ;D

I think this is the best deal around...! but don't take my word for it, mosey on down and have a shufty.  ;D
  • I have been using bb for about a year now and can safely say that i would not touch a capped package. Why? , well once you are on you will find your use will go up and up and up. In the last 2 days alone i have downloaded more than 2 gb's of data.

I am a home user with https://www.v21.co.uk using there 512kb adsl account which is £19.99 amonth unlimited, if you require a static IP this is an extra £1.99 a month.

DO NOT TOUCH CAPPED you will regret it in the long run.

Just as a little side note if you want truly free, safe and secure software convert to Linux. Dont be fooled by the microsoft machine! ;D
  • Caped is fine if you just want access, it's worth a look, and it's business features like static IP are free.

according to https://www.adslguide.org.uk it's one of the best with a variaty of package including uncapped...!

    like i said it's worth a look... ;D
  • What is not clear on their site is the vat situation. sre the prices quoted incl. vat? Cannot do an accurate assesment otherwise.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
  • If you choose HOME Broadband it's including VAT, BUSINESS Broadband is plus VAT.

Don't for forget you can earn from it too...! :o
  • Hello
I am a newbie here, but not to the site. Martin and this site have saved me about £200 in the last 6 months and I want to give something back.

My thing is Broadband. I have had several providers now over the past couple of years and its not just about how much you pay but the service you get as well. I'll cut things short as I could whinge for England with the hassle that I have had and especially getting away from providers  please be careful and watch your backs as a recent provider (Italian sounding if you know what I mean) threatened to hound for monies outsatnding which I did not owe them. Just to sleep at night I paid because life is too short. Anyway my current provider is the business!! They are called ADS or e7even. Find them at https://www.adsbroadband.com. I like and would recomend them so much that I signed a contract with them to promote them. Sorry, I know that this is not the place for promoters, but forgive me for one second and let me finnish. I have arranged with them that the customers gets the £10 off voucher rather than me if you enter the code
    500012
when signing up. I just wanted to give a little back. I won't quote prices here becasue they have a sale on right now. It is worth a look, and don't forget that voucher code when signing up!! Thanx  Cab.
