Great news! I have just applied again and have been awarded a dishwasher with five year warranty - I'm just waiting for the Comet card to arrive.

    Enjoy your holiday!

Well done! Can I ask how long ago you applied? I applied 12th June for my first award and DS gets HRC/LRM. I know that they say 2-4 months so I'm not up to the 2 months even yet but I keep checking the post every day :)

I've applied before, so I was able to apply online. It's quicker that way. First applications always take longer, and paper applications take longer than online.

Last year, it took eight days (I was awarded a Haven holiday).

This year, I applied last Tuesday. On Thursday, I received an application form in the post, but the letter said that if I had applied in the last two years, I could apply online. I rang up to say I had applied online but did I still need to fill in the paper form (whch asked for proof of benefits). The lady who answered the phone wasn't sure why I had been sent a paper form, but told me I had been awarded a dishwasher, as requested, and that a letter was in the post. The letter arrived on Friday. So three days altogether, but I haven't received the Comet card yet - that will take up to 21 days to arrive. I don't know anybody who has had such a quick response, but I'm delighted!

Thats excellent Kingfisher. I don't think we'll qualify next year due to the tax credit thresholds being reduced so this will be our one and only application :)

just to update - the family Fund card for Comet arrived this morning, eleven days after the original application. It states on it that the card is for a dishwasher, 5 year warranty, delivery and installation, and it is for £370. I'll have to add a bit of money to cover everything, but that's fine (£250 for the cheapest dishwasher I've seen in store, £110 warranty, £20 installation, and free delivery at the moment). It's only a tenner unless I get a more expensive dishwasher.

There's a Boscsh that I like, but it would cost me about £100 more. This month is already expensive with the school holidays and new uniform top buy - youngest starts high school and the blazer alone is almost £40 . So tonight I'll have to check the finances and see what I can sort out.

Why pay the £110 warranty? My Bosch lasted nearly 10 years before needing replacement.

My friend has a Bosch dishwasher that she bought seventeen years ago. The Family Fund have a rule that you must include a three or five year warranty in the purchase - for dishwashers it is five years. I think they probably have the rule to prevent people from applying for the same thing every couple of years.

I was very glad of the warranty for my washing machine, as I needed to call out the engineers on several occasions - the washer was eventually replaced as the problems were constant.
  • Warranties generally are are GOLDFISH see #13 & #14 but in this case the FF covers its gift with a Retailer Warranty.

That's why the FF use Comet for white goods :

""" White goods supplied by Family Fund or purchased by using a Comet card are generally covered for five years with the exception of Cookers and Tumble dryers awarded after 1 May 2010 which are three years. Tumble dryers awarded before 30 April 2010 where awarded with 5 year warranty. """
