Blackberry Bold 9700 handset only

Currently have a bb8520 on payg and am looking to upgrade handset to a bb9700.

Can someone point me in the right direction of the best deals.

Currently on Orange therefore it would probably need to be unlocked.

Thanks in advance!

  • Hi all,

I am currently running a blackberry on Orange payg.

£10 per month gets me 400 free texts, £5 is also taken off instantly for me to have the Blackberry service (BIS). This leaves me with £5 credit for calls for the month.

    Question,

Is there a cheaper way to run a Blackberry or get free mins?

    Thanks
  • A sim only contract could be better possibly -

    T-Mobile - 300 minutes, 300 text, 500MB data & BBM - £15.31 per month - http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/sim-only/tariffs/

ChitterChatter are currently doing an excellent SIM only T-Mobile deal - £10 per month gets 600 minutes, 500 text & 500MB data you would have to add the BBM option for an extra £5.10 per month - http://www.chitterchatter.co.uk/simonly.php
    :dance:Quidco Payments In 2011 - £724.21

    June: £43.15/July: £51.22/August: £90.60/September: £29.75/October: £284.07/November: £171.08/December: £29.22

Depends what you mean by "run" a blackberry.

What are you after in terms of texts and minutes?

As fas as I know, the cheapest PAYG option to access solely BBM is with T-mobile paying £20 for 6 months of BBM access - but subsequent costs of texts and minutes may outweigh this. Everyone else seems to charge £5 per month or there abouts.
  • I probably did not word my question particluarly well regarding the running of a Blackberry.

What im really after is help on finding a way to get more for my £10 top up.

I appreciate its basically standard to pay £5 to get BIS.

It would look like a sim only deal, possibly a month notice would be something I could look into.

I'm not looking for many mins to be honest. I'm working on the grounds that anything on top of what I'm currently getting from Orange (Dolphin) would be a bonus.

    Thanks
  • Do you really need BIS?

Just calls, texts & a data allowance ought to do it, no?
    I get 100mins, 100texts & T-Mob's idea of "fair" unlimited data for a tenner p/m, albeit on a Win-Mo, & now an Android phone.

A fiver left over for calls at PAYG prices seems like a poor deal for you tbh, so yes, I would definitely look into whether or not BIS is essential.

I mean, if it's only certain apps (like the built in BB messenger, or the BB-specific push-email) that need it, then the whole point of a smartphone is that it can run a myriad of software, just like a "real" computer, so just use a normal email client that doesn't need a special BB tax.

Are you making the most of your £10 monthly top up at the moment?

Top up £10 a month on Dolphin for 400 free texts as a top up reward.
    Spend £5 credit on BIS
Spend £5 credit on a 100 minute extra

400 texts, 100 minutes and access to BIS for £10 a month on PAYG.

    Does this help?

That is exactly the sort of info I was looking for yes.

My only query would be do I need to put an extra £5 top up on to get the 100 mins?

    If not, that sounds ideal.

I need to get myself into the Orange shop to discuss!

    Thanks
  • how long have you been with your provider?
  • Been with Orange for approx 18 months.

    Thanks

No, you wouldn't need to top up an extra £5.

It would come from your credit balance.

So, if you top up £10 and £5 is used to pay for BIS, the remaining £5 can be used to buy the 100 minute extra. Your balance reverts back to exactly what it was before the £10 top up as you've used up £10 credit, but you haven't added an extra £5 top up. Make sense?

To buy the 100 minute extra, you simply text MINS 5 to 6620. This will deduct £5 from your credit balance immediately and you've got 100 minutes to use in the next 30 days. You'll get a text message to confirm the minutes have been added. If you use them all, further minutes during the lifetime of the extra (30 days in this case) cost just 5p each from your credit balance. Much better than their standard PAYG rates.
