The job sounds promising, I think part of the attraction is that it's 'cards in' and you don't have to worry about the tax & NI side of things.

And as has been said, you can always hand in your notice if it doesn't work out.

  • It really sounds ideal for you. What have you got to lose by applying for it? Absolutely nothing:D and if it is pro rata, and is part time then in theory you can still freelance a bit as well. A win win situation:j

I agree with the others, if the idea of the job makes you happy, definitely apply and see what happens. 27K pro rata doesn't sound too bad to me, and you'd have the option of keeping on a bit of the less stressful freelancing work to top it up. At the moment, the whole uncertainty of being self-employed seems to be getting on top of you, so maybe you would be more relaxed and be able to enjoy life more if you moved away from it.

Maybe this would be a good time to sit down and do a big review of where you are with your finances, and see if you can juggle things around to get your monthly commitments down, to give a bit more breathing space. If it was me, I think I would definitely use those credit card cheques this month, just to ease the pressure off. Good luck!

If the thought of this job is making you smile already, then you should at least apply for it. If you don't get it, then it is not an issue, and you don't have to make any decisions. If you do get it, you can then make a decision if you are still smiling, or not. But if you don't even apply, you won't ever know.......!

I thought this when I came back into stockbroking - as soon as I saw the Ad, I was really excited! For me it turned out to be the right move.....I trusted my gut instinct and it paid off.

If it feels wrong though, leave it be!

I've paid £3200 of the tax using the Barclaycard cheque. That leaves just £1812 tax owing, which I'll pay in six instalments of £302. That feels much better than the £833 monthly payments I was facing before. I don't know if it was the right decision but it's a relief.

This means my debt total today is £36,163.24 - back where it was in September 2007! Luckily it should come down by £800 a month through minimum payments alone and of course I want to pay it off faster.

I'm interested in the park job but have to be realistic - I don't have a lot of the experience they're looking for. I will ring the Parks Department manager for an informal chat before applying.

ps I got my Qype goodies today! I'm pleased with the t-shirt - I didn't realise it would be long-sleeved and a tasteful green. Has anyone investigated whether any of the bits are saleable?
