Glad you paid the money off the tax with the barclaycard thingy. Now if you got the job, you could use the income to pay the barclay card off with......

Would that give you enough motivation to apply

Ref OH and his idea. I hope he is good. There are already people doing this, BUT if he has an angle, ie tieing in his animation back ground that might get an audience.

And by the way if he was in Lidly buying a radio, does that mean you have FINALLY weaned yourself off Sainsbury (if you are going to review your spending and you STILL shop there, then CHANGE IT!!!!:D :D )!

Bad luck about the dentist. I take it that you don't have private health care that covers dentistry?

And once you have read this, DO YOUR APPLICATION!

Hi all! Thanks for the messages. I haven't been on much as I have been working hard (and become addicted to Facebook scrabble).

The deadline for applying for the park job is next Friday. I'm still totally undecided whether it's a good thing to go for it.

It wouldn't help to pay the tax bill, Chev. It's less than half of a full-time job, and I reckon the salary would just cover the mortgage payment. That would mean I could leave my Alliance & Leicester account to look after itself, and just concentrate on earning enough freelance to cover the standing orders from my other account (£800/month) plus general living costs and debt payments.

Of course if I made an effort, I could earn more freelancing. And the requirement to do 15 hours/week in the job might prevent me taking more lucrative freelance contracts. On the other hand, it would be guaranteed predictable income each month, taxed at source, with the other perks of employment.

Aaargh! How do I decide? I'm trying to think long-term, and perhaps this job would open up new doors for me, as it involves promoting historic monuments, which is something I've dreamed of doing for some time.

I wonder though if it would be quite stressful, as I would be the only person in the department with responsibiilty for marketing. My boss would be the man who runs the park from a maintenance/landscape point of view. So I would have noone to ask advice or bounce ideas off etc.

Any ideas on how to make this decision would be very welcome!

    Ways of making the decision......

    - lists of fors and againsts.....or do a mindmap of some sort

    - toss a coin - if you are disappointed when it lands, that tells you what you really "want" to do..........

In any event, what is to stop you applying for the job - you don't have to take it if you get offered it, and if you don't get offered it, the way that you feel at that time might be indicative of the way you would feel about other "employed" work. Eg if you feel a sense of relief that you didn't get it, then you know it was not right for you. If, on the other hand, you are really disappointed that you don't get it, then it might be worth considering looking for others...........

You can only go with how YOU feel.

.... and where could you get the bouncing off other people?: It works online on here, is there a forum/ organisation for the sort of job you do? Would national charities like RSPB have other workers in the same boat as yourself?

As to earning more freelancing if you made the effort - well, yes, but you find that effort very difficult. Just had a thought - will you find the effort you make now *more* difficult if you have this job? Since the freelancing pays so much better, that might be a strike *against* the job, lovely as it sounds.

    No wonder you're torn!

But surely know that the mortgage would be paid no matter what, would be a TREMENDOUS weight off your shoulder. The job would guarantee you had a roof over your children's heads no matter what else happens (oh falling off the new motivated wagon he is on at the moment for example)

Of course if I made an effort, I could earn more freelancing. And the requirement to do 15 hours/week in the job might prevent me taking more lucrative freelance contracts. Or it might give you valuable insight into how this area works, which could help you secure more freelance work. Ie with new clients when they see you cv would see you are doing this sort of work, and might that not help?

On the other hand, it would be guaranteed predictable income each month, taxed at source, with the other perks of employment. Like paid holidays? where you could do your freelance work...?

Aaargh! How do I decide? I'm trying to think long-term, and perhaps this job would open up new doors for me, as it involves promoting historic monuments, which is something I've dreamed of doing for some time. Dag nam it Seax we are only here once. So go for it at least apply for the blessed thing and go to the interview I am sure you will get!

I wonder though if it would be quite stressful, as I would be the only person in the department with responsibiilty for marketing. My boss would be the man who runs the park from a maintenance/landscape point of view. So I would have noone to ask advice or bounce ideas off etc. And who do you have to bounce ideas off NOW? Yet you mostly still get the work done. How would this be any different. And just because your potential boss is more into the hands on parts of the park, doesn't mean he won't be able to be a sounding board for you.

Any ideas on how to make this decision would be very welcome!

I really think you should go for it, just for the knowing that your mortgage would get paid without having to move money around, and potentially end up with charges when it all doesn't quite work properly

    good luck

  • Just apply - if you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got etc........ you need the change if nothing else - it sounds very interesting!

Thanks you two. Yes I will stop dithering and apply. I may well not get offered it anyway and all this dithering will be wasted!
