Not very good. I spent a lot of time faffing and not getting started on the main writing job I've got to do. And then decided to do an easier piece of work instead. So my block about that writing task is just growing.

The two youngest children are watching the Olympics on telly behind me, which is very distracting. Meanwhile OH is reading a book in the next room. The kids haven't been out of the house in two whole days, and probably won't tomorrow either, this really stresses me out.

Feeling really rubbish actually. Reading of Hypno's amazing progress has brought home to me how rubbish my efforts are. I'm going backwards really.

Please don't be so hard on yourself. You may not have done the main piece of work but have at least done another piece of work.So it's not all bad. Please don't feel rubbish as you are doing the best you can in a bad situation.
Is there any chance of your DH taking the kids out tomorrow?

sorry that the main work didn't get done BUT you got something done, so give yourself credit for that. If OH isn't working today then he can be taking the youngest two somewhere even if it is the local park. If he isn't working then he HAS to help out the person who is IE YOU to make the money
    good luck

But seaxwyn, you have to remember all the advantages to working from home. Remember that I am making progress at the moment because I took the option of full time paid employment. That means that I cannot be at home with the kids in the school holidays - I lost that flexibility that you have. That is the "price" I pay. The "price" you pay, is not having the discipline of someone making you work, so work doesn't always gets done. Neither option is perfect, but both are very different so we can't really compare one with the other in the same way.

Your efforts are certainly not rubbish.....they are just different to mine at the moment. And that is because we are working in completely different ways.

The faffing and not getting the most out of the potential was my problem with working from home and working for myself......there were always other things to do that were more interesting/easier/lazier than doing the work that would get me more money. I didn't have the "drive" to do that in the way it deserved, and at the end of the day for me, the need to earn enough money to know I can pay the bills without losing sleep took over and I had to take the employed work.

Embrace the fact that the kids are there watching the olympics! After all, it is one of the benefits of working from home! Hopefully the weather will improve and you can set them their own olympics out in the garden!

Anyway, how good are my efforts if I still haven't sent you the parcel that has been wrapped and ready to go for ages! See, crap I am!

Well done on the work you did achieve seaxwyn - no mean feat to do anything with those distractions. Hope as others have said that your OH takes the kids out tomorrow so you can get some time to focus. But don't beat yourself up! :)

You are not crap! Don't worry about the parcel - it will be greatly appreciated when it arrives but there is no rush.

OH hasn't been totally useless, he has done some nice things with the kids. But when they are playing quietly he tends to wander off to the computer or start reading a book, and doesn't notice when they need attention again. I took DS took the park this evening and he played football with some other boys for an hour, so I feel better about him at least.

Certainly there are pros to working at home, but sadly I'm not making the most of them. I may be at home, but I'm stressing at the computer shouting at anyone who comes near. Anyway, I must not dwell on my failings now but try and at least write an outline of the two things I should have written last week, and which the client is now quite reasonably chasing for.

I'm working in London tomorrow and Friday mornings so won't get a chance to do much writing til the weekend. And on Friday my dad is coming home from hospital! It seems very soon, but he has made good progress and they need the beds for other patients. He will apparently get the elusive physiotherapy at home.

    Morning Seaxwyn,
Great news re your Dad coming home as I'm sure he'll recover better at home with his own surroundings and his family around.
Could you maybe allocate a time to just writing the outlines? ..I always find if I break a big job down into chunks then it isn't as daunting.
Hope you have a good day xx
