If you do settle down and have a family, will you be planning to educate them privately or will state school catchment areas be an issue?

Its all very new to me. I need to look into it. Most likely state sector.

I have spent a couple of summers in Broadstairs. Very nice. I like the architecture. How are the winters there?

Some really useful ideas. I will definitely be looking into them. I think I will be a busy bee for a while. I also will save a small fortune on those relocation agents to boot! Win to MSE.

Hi: spent 8 of my 15 years in the UK in Broadstairs.....by choice.;) The Kent seaside has its own beauty in the winter but very busy in the season when the DFLs descend.

My jaw hit the floor at the '40' comment lol. I don't feel old enough to be a parent yet (if ever - probably never in fact) and I'm over 40 ;)

Because of the war, my father was 44 when my oldest brother was born, and he was nearly 50 when I was born.

I like Tunbridge Wells, btw. Great place, with some decent houses in the centre near the railway station, and not ridiculously pricey (by present standards).
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I'd second the Tunbridge Wells comments - lovely place, good schools and easy to get to some beautiful countryside. Sevenoaks is also a great place to live, with easy commuter links to the capital. There's the Sevenoaks line that goes into Blackfriars / St Pancras(I think - could be another one) or very nearby is Otford which goes into Victoria. I used to commute from Otford to London Victoria daily - 40 mins.

Maybe 30-40 years ago but I don't think it's that unusual these days.

I love Bedford! Wonderful countryside, a town that has a great history, and manages, as few do, to have an old-fashioned "county town" feel and be multi-cultural.

Oh, wait! I know what oldernotwiser is doing!
Stay away from Beds & Northants everyone! Do not come to this area! Oh, it's really awful!

The downside of Kent is we still have the 11+ exam. So unless you are sure the little one is going to be a prodigy, some of the secondary schools are quite appalling.
    Been away for a while.
