so a few of counter staff won't know much more than that they can take in a giro deposit for Lloyds TSB and the money will go in at some point in the future

If they know that little about the service they shouldn't be offering it and shouldn't be allowed to work on a desk where the service is offered.

It's disgraceful that companies think ignorance is an excuse. Ignorance is absolute no excuse whatsoever - all organisations have a responsibility to hire staff competent enough to deal with all queries they will encounter in their role in a professional manner, and they have a responsibility to offer sufficient training and CS Quality Delivery Control that issues like this don't occur.

The amount of companies and front line staff that take this blaze' attitude and have no comprehension about their responsibility to ensure the customer understands everything that is happening precicely and correctly makes me sick.

If you can't be bothered to do your job properly and know the facets of what it entails find another one where you can.

Do you know what I do when dealing with a query like this? I explain everything that will happen from beginning to end, in a way tailored to the customer's level of understanding, ensure they are happy, answer any questions, and anything that I'm not 100% sure about I will find out and either get back to the customer there and then or call / email them back within a few minutes.

I don't make things up, I don't guess, and I don't use words like "probably" or "maybe" - nor do I say "I don't know". I do, however say "This is what I believe to be the process but bear with me one second whilst I make absolutely sure" and advise accordingly.

Out of the last 2,500 calls and emails I've dealt with on the helpdesk I work for I've not had one come back to me because too little / incorrect information has been taken or given, except in instances where processes have changed and we've not been advised - and in instances like this the information is gathered in a way transparent to the customer and in a way that doesn't negatively impact the resolution of their query.

Worst case scenario a customer will be contacted back with a revised explanation as to what will happen from here on in coupled with an apology for misadvising in the fist instance - not waiting for the customer to get back to us shirty because they've been misadvised. Proactive.

It's simple really, if you can be arsed.

  • I've gone / am going through the same as the OP. I paid in some cash at the post office on Wed 5th Oct, on Fri 7th it still hadn't gone into my lloyds account. I went in and asked where my money had got to. They said it might just be a little later and that it will be in by Mon 10th...it wasn't. The post office then told me to go to the bank to sort it out, even though I told them that it would be futile because of the fact that the bank blatantly haven't received any money from the post office, so they won't have paper work etc, etc. I then, begrudgingly, went to the bank with the post office receipt and they said exactly what I thought they'd say - 'Not our fault, we haven't received anything from the post office. Go back to them'. I went back AGAIN to the post office with my receipt and they said it wasn't their fault and got out a bunch of receipts from Wed 5th and showed me that they had processed my deposit amongst a bunch of others. Today - Thursday 13th - I went to the bank AGAIN and, although I knew it was pointless, asked them what they could do. They said: 'Nothing', as expected.

So far I have asked for my money back around 4 TIMES and the post office just passes the buck. What can I do to get the money that they stole from me / lost back??? I thought it would be a simple case of handing them the receipt, them checking to see whether or not it's gone through and, VOILA, they hand the money back. But it's been nearly 10 DAYS and they're giving me the run around.

    Any ideas / suggestions???

Demand to see the manager and refuse to leave until they've refunded you or CHAPSed the cash to your bank account. Get your bank on speakerphone whilst the manager is there.

    Good luck! :o

  • I would have thought PO cash deposits would be instant, or at least my deposit was this afternoon so not quite sure what there is to process?
I put my card in, they type in the amount and give me a receipt - it's then in my account instantly.
  • Thanks for that.

I just don't get how they can TELL me to do this and do that, when it's not my problem / fault...IT'S THEIRS!

If they ask me to go to the bank AGAIN I'm literally gonna have to talk to them like a mother talks to her baby, then draw a diagram explaining the concept of 'THE BANK HAVEN'T RECEIVED ANY MONEY, THEREFORE AREN'T GONNA DO ANYTHING...BECAUSE IT'S ROYAL MAIL'S FAULT, NOT THEIRS'.

I'm not joking when I say that some of these people I've been dealing with are not carrying a full deck, if ya get my drift!

No more Mr. Nice Guy methinks. They're not gonna like me tomorrow! HaHa! :D:D:D
  • @samwsmith1 It's only instant if you're putting money into a post office account. I was depositing money into my Lloyds TSB account through the Post Office (as my Lloyds branch is a LONG bus journey away and my local post office is practically next door).

They told me that it would take 24hrs longer than putting it in your bank account face-to-face...that was 9 days ago!

I was depositing cash into my Co-Operative account so different banks obviously have different procedures.

You will have to raise a concern with the post office to find out where the funds have gone too. If they are unable to resolve your query within 8 weeks you can take your concerns to the FOS.

  • Thanks StClair. But there's gonna be no waiting 8 weeks with this one. If they don't give me my money, I'm calling the cops!

I've got a: A RECEIPT and b: OFFICIAL PRINTED PROOF OF ACCOUNT ACTIVITY STAMPED BY LLOYDS BANK.

    If that's not enough, then I don't know what is! : )

The police wont do anything :p

If you paid the money in at the PO how do lloyds know they wont do anything even if you have a receipt from the PO.
