I booked a car through Douyouspain for a 28 day period. I was advised that their excess insurance would cost me less than that supplied by Goldcar at Alicante. Like a fool I took their Gold insurance and a cost of 69 euros. On arrival at Goldcar clutching my Doyou car reservation and the low cost insurance policy I quickly found out that Goldcar wouldn't accept the Doyou policy and I had to take out Goldcar's policy or pay a 600 euro deposit against any damage. Decided to pay up as I didn't trust them to refund the 600 euros. Their policy cost 95 euros. Doyou have refused to refund the useless policy. When making the initial reservation Doyou said I could save time at Alicante by paying them in advance of my travel thank goodness I didn't take them up on that offer.. So now you have been warned steer clear

    Martidj,

You clearly don't understand or weren't bothered to follow the information provided when you bought the cheaper policy.

These usually tell you that you have to pay the rental company's deposit and recover it at the end. If the car is damaged and your deposit is not fully refunded, you claim that shortfall on the policy you bought.

Goldcar are aren't going to, and don't need to, "accept" the policy you bought. All you needed to do was decline their additional cover and pay the deposit.

Shame you didn't pay more attention, it's cost you €95.

That was the first time I used a car rental thing. I payed for car rental in Barcelona by the internet, and I got contract in spanish. I did not know that I need credit card with me, when I travel. So they did not gave me the car. But I called to doyouspain and explained everything. They told me thats ok and since a I canceled order in time, I will receive my money. That happened more than 3 months ago. I call them, I text them, but all they do is give me promises and nothing more. Do not trust them!!! And while I was there I sow a lot of costumers complain about the price. Since they show one price on the internet, but when You are there, they freez more money for the fuel. And if You bring whole tank back, they still take away like 70EUR from Your bank account. NEVER TRUST THEM!!!!!!
  • I rented a car in Palma in the summer. The full price was clearly shown, Europcar provided the car and everything seemed fine. And then, a week or so after our return, Do You Spain/Europcar deducted, for which read 'stole', an extra £120 from my debit card, without notice or explanation.
I'm still trying to get the money back.
They do not reply to emails.
They do not have a phone number.
They are utterly appalling and should not be allowed to trade if there is no way to get complaints addressed.
    Do not use them.
  • booked car through DYS & paid , when I wanted to extend rental period the website would not let me change booking ! I rebooked with DYS & cancelled original booking ! I have since had confirmation of cancelation with the information that Gold Car do Not have a refund policy! Do You Spain's home page is Still Advertising No Cancellation or amendment Fees ! Ps Both Booking's are with GOLD CAR !!!
No Phone Number ! No answer to my emails !
Give this Mob a Wide berth,

Can anyone explain to me why people would use a website like DYS and not book direct with a car hire company? I'm genuinely baffled!
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

    Presumably because its cheaper.

And before some wise-guy says "you get what you pay for", I've saved hundreds by using brokers etc. with no issues so far (touch wood!).

Sometimes booking through them or others along the same lines comes out cheaper

Booked with Doyouspain loads of times and never had a problem

And to the people saying they don`t have a phone number .

Why is there no phone number?
Our #1 goal is to give you the best price possible. Having expensive call centers and hundreds of people on the phone does not contribute to this goal. We give you our phone number on your confirmation voucher once you become our customer. And we pass on to you all the savings of not having a big call center. So you can enjoy prices that are always cheaper - guaranteed!
    Have a nice day :)

I hired through DoYouSpain last year (2014) for the first time prior to my annual visit to Menorca. Their quote for a Budget Rent-a-Car vehicle was almost half the price quoted via Budget's own website for the same vehicle with a full-full fuel policy. The hire turned out to be excellent value with a nearly new vehicle from a known and reputable supplier. I decided to book via DYS again this year (2015) and obtained an excellent deal for a Hiper Rent-a-Car vehicle with a full-full fuel policy. The quote was considerably cheaper than booking directly with Hiper BUT, on printing out the Hire Voucher, the accompanying information stated that there would be a non-refundable refueling charge of 19€ - even though the vehicle will be returned with a full tank. I checked the Hiper website and they mention no such refueling charge, and an email to them confirmed that they do not have any refuelling charge. However, they stated that since the booking made through DYS (who can stipulate any additional charges they wish) they will be obliged to charged me this extra non-refundable 19€ over and above the returnable deposit for a full tank of fuel at the time of collecting the vehicle. So make sure you factor in these extra charges imposed by DYS when you compare quotes. It is hidden away in their FAQs about fuel policies.
  • We arrived in Milan last week and went to Goldcar office desk to pick up our prepaid rental of a car. When we got to the desk, we were asked for a credit card for which we produced our American Express. Unfortunately, they didn't accept the card so we gave them our debit card which we already used to prepay the rental online. This was not accepted too. Apparently, it had to be a Visa or MasterCard. On the booking voucher, it said to bring a credit card (Visa MasterCard) but it didn't specify that it had to be that only 2 cards. As far as we were concerned, they were just examples and we could use our American Express. We were turned away and couldn't even use Goldcar office to call DoyouItaly. We had to go to Hertz to call DoyouItaly.

When we spoke to the woman on the phone, she could not be more useless. She couldn't do anything about our booking. She could not move our booking to another hire company nor could she refund our money!!! We have had to pay for another rental which had cost us double what we paid them. And we also ended up at the airport for another 11/2 hours because of this.

The terms and conditions do NOT specify ONLY Visa and MasterCard, it states a major credit card. The two brands are examples. American Express is a major credit card and is accepted by other companies. DoyouItaly failed to make it clear that only these two cards were acceptable and instead are relying on the small print to try and catch me out. Whilst they can point at the contract, so can I.

Even worse is that they were happy to leave us stranded at the airport in the late evening without any options, repeating the small print so as to say it wasn't their problem.

This tells me that they should definitely not be in the holiday business, if any business at all. If it had been a family with small children and limited options they would have been in serious trouble - but DoyouItaly would have been happy because they could point at the contract.

Basically DoyouItaly have taken payment, not fulfilled the contract to provide a car and decided that keeping my money is acceptable.

This is a form of theft and I will be following up for sure.
