Have to say that McDonalds customer service is very good. I hadn't received one of the promotional leaflets that are on the go at the moment (although after reading this thread, I may be too afraid to use it!) so emailed them and asked about it. Nice letter and leaflet arrived in the post this morning:)

Sorry but Mcdonalds customer service isn't very good at all.

We had a "coffee" which was actually water with what could only be described as some sort of brown dye substance.

Emailed them and they said "sorry, we can't do anything as the restaurant in question is a private franchise and it is up to the owner to run it how he feels is appropriate".

I support business moving away and abroad because if people in our own (once great) country don't want to do a job properly, they shouldn't complain and whine when their jobs go elsewhere!

I also don't frequent McD's very much - I used to mystery shop them so can tell you some stories. However, last week I was out with DS2 and was going straight to his pre-school and there wasn't anywhere to buy an ordinary sarnie, so went through the drive-thru. Didn't check food until I'd left. The fries and Ds2's nuggets were so overcooked they were awful, as well as being far too salty. I decided to ring them later that afternoon to complain that it had been inedible. They immediately offered me free meals but it's in an area i hardly ever go to so they offered to send me vouchers. They were on the doorstep the next morning. Impressive customer service - shame about the food though :)

Watch Super Size Me on Channel 4 this week. You will never ever eat in MacDonalds again.

supersize me is on channel 4 tonight, but i watched it on DVD last night and although it's pretty shocking it hasn't put me off eating there because we eat healthily at home and only eat fast food about once a fortnight. the film also includes overweight people, one talking about her great grandfather's death from obesity (can't blame that on mcdonalds), people who eat 9 big macs a day and showing school dinners etc. where kids just eat chips and cookies. i think mcdonalds is only bad for you if you're undisciplined and not very bright - everyone knows you should eat 5 portions of fruit/veg a day and not overdose on fat/salt/etc., and only a muppet would ever order a supersize meal or 3 big macs in one go anyhow, and i don't see why he had to have dessert with every meal, and ketchup - there's optional. the people becoming obese due to eating too much mcdonalds are not the sort of people who would be eating healthily if there wasn't a mcdonalds in the high street - they're people who don't eat fruit or veg, who eat chips at school, crisps at home, etc. and don't take an interest in healthy eating. removing the mcdonalds wouldn't change their eating habits or reduce their weight in any way at all, they'd just eat rubbish at the chip shop or another fast food place instead. my son likes mcdonalds and i'm intelligent enough to see that it doesn't do him any harm once in a while, it's not as if he eats chips, chocolate, fatty or salty foods etc. at home anyway.

supersize me has been great, it's forced mcdonalds to reassess their menu and include healthier options. nuggets are made from chicken breast now with reduced salt. kids can have fruit bags or carrots instead of fries and adults can have a side salad. it makes me cringe when mothers bring their little ones in for lunch everyday and feed them cheeseburger, chips and coke though, there's just no need to buy so much junk. watching supersize me it also looks as if american coke and fries portions are three times the size of ours, no wonder they get fat. mcdonalds has removed the supersize option. it annoys the customers who would buy one to share, and now have to pay more for their food if a large isn't big enough for them to share, but it was very irresponsible of mcd's to sell such massive portions as if they were 'normal' - look at the size of the supersize fries tonight and you'll see what i mean.

i've complained about mcdonalds before and my email was passed on to the guy who owns the franchise, he sent me vouchers. always complain instore, but if you don't get a satisfactory response you can complain via the website and will be sent vouchers. they sell well on ebay if you don't feel like eating at mcd's again. as for feedback letters, there's a crew member of the month award, i think the winner gets a bonus in their pay so sending a letter (good or bad) could affect that. there aren't stars on the name badges anymore, so i'm afraid you have no way of telling how well trained the staff are. obviously a woman in her 30's such as myself, working part time while kids are in school is probably a better bet than somebody younger who looks wasted or hungover. always complain about dirty hands, there's a buzzer reminding staff to wash their hands every half hour, and they should always be washed when beginning work and after a break anyway. mcd's have so many rules and procedures for ensuring cleanliness and good hygeine, if you think they're not being followed then it's worth making a fuss as it may result in retraining. and staff who've been sick should go home immediately, apparently it should even be written in the accident book. a member of staff at my mcd's was pregnant and ran outside to be sick, a customer saw her being sick and was then horrified to be served by the same girl 5 minutes later. a nasty letter to the manager and franchise owner ensured that vomiting staff were sent home in future. you could always write in, pretend to be a customer who saw staff being sick and then going back on duty. incidents like that are seriuos and it's really awful if a poor/lazy manager makes the staff member carry on working, they could be spreading disease around, and an outbreak would make bad publicity for mcdonalds, so even if it's a franchise always complain, the franchise owner probably doesn't realise that the managers aren't sticking to the rules regarding sickness, and will give the managers a badly needed kick.

i work part time in a mcdonalds :D just a few hours a week and we get free lunch, doesn't mean we have to eat burgers or chips though, i have salad and water. i prefer wimpy, they've got a new burger out with less fat, i had a quarter pounder at the weekend and it was lovely).

But why does it need something like Supersize Me to get a reaction from McDonalds ? The film wasn't meant to highlight shortcomings in staff. The whole point of the movie was to highlight the effects of a junk food diet. Some individuals do eat an awful amount of junk. Our kids aren't being educated about the need for a healthy diet and lifestyle. The amount of money being spent by the peddlers of this type of food swamps that spent by those trying to emphasise the need for a healthy diet. The new "healthy" salads aren#t as healthy as McDonalds make out. For God's sake, why do they put sugar in their salads ? I've fed my kids at McDonalds, and eaten there myself, but I'll never do it again. The same applies to most other junk food outlets. Most days we manage to get at least 3 portions of fruit or veg into my kids, usually more. Sadly, I discovered that some of their friends counted fries as vegetables, because they are made from potatoes.

The point we should take from Supersize Me is that junk food is toxic.

You should also read "Fast Food Nation", which shows how the McDonalds operation has effected business in the USA.
