Bath or no bath

I figured I would ask this on this board as it suits more.
I plan to modernise my bathroom - including tiles and flooring.
My bathroom is small: 231cm x 156cm
I have a bath in there: 167cm x 68cm
I have lived here for 3 1/2 years and only had a bath once, I prefer a shower. I plan to get a shower instead of a bath, as the bath is taking up too much space in a small bathroom and in that space I could have a small unit to store towels etc. At the moment they stored in my drawer under the bed, house is very small and lacks storage (top of the stairs leads straight into bedroom).
My brother-in-law said I need to think about the re-sale value ofthe house as a shower my lower it, I don't plan on moving, but living on my own you never know what might happen.
I can see his point, so now I feel I can't have what I want all because of re-sale value.
What do you think?

Personally, I wouldn't buy a house which just had a shower - but I'm a bath lover. I have small bathroom with a shower fitted over the bath but hardly ever use it. You cannot drink a glass of wine while reading in the shower!
But, it's your choice. You have to live in the house.0 -

Me too ....... 66% of people prefer baths0 -
hmmm its a toughie! we rent and just have a shower, so when I stayed in a hotel with a bath I was like ooooh a bath but after 5 mins I was bored! I much prefer showers, but see your BIL's point about the resale value. Is it possible to design it in a way where you get the bathroom you want, but if you do decide to sell it wouldnt be too hard to rejig the room to put a bath in?0

Personally I'm not fussed about having a bath.
Been in our new place for 6 months and haven't used the bath once (showering daily don't worry!).
Suggest you have your house the way you want it unless you are planning to imminently sell.0 -
I'd require a bath in anywhere I lived.
Are you planning to stay there for a long time? If so, sod the re-sell point....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I would discount any property without a bath.......showers are just not the same.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
if your house is a young family type home then they usually want a bath for bathing young children. If it's more a home that attracts young professionals then a shower only won't put them off.

I don't really like baths (I agree with people who think you are soaking in your own dirt eurrrrrgh!). So in my small bathroom I have a double shower (that way I don't bang my elbows when putting up my hands to wash my hair.
My friend and I went to several places to look at showers and we stood in all of them, much to the amazement of the staff. I explaned that I needed to know how much room there was inside (I could hardly squeeze into one!) and thats how I had a double.
I don't intend to sell but if I was the bathroom would stay as it is unless I could have it refitted for far less than any price improvement.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0 -
A shower only would suit me
But if you are going that route, get a good one, which will be a feature when you come to move0 -
Buy some spare tiles. If you come to sell you can point out to potential buyers that, if they prefer a bath, they can easily replace the shower and won't have to re-tile the whole bathroom in the process."When the people fear the government there is tyranny, when the government fears the people there is liberty." - Thomas Jefferson0
