Hit by reversing car
In my local sainsburys I was driving on my side of the carpark aisle, slowing to approach the give was lines at the end of the aisle, so I was basically stationary.
I drive a tiny Peugeot 170 and have a big dent in the rear drivers door.
The driver if the other car, who looks early 20's smartly dressed, 51 plate, immediately jumped out of his car and started saying he was sorry and that he didn't see me and when he did it was too late to stop.
I have booked my car in to the garage for an estimate it is likely that I'll need a new door.
Given that he is in his early 20's I phoned him with an update and said that I was happy for him to pay privately for the repair if his excess was massive ( given how young is he ) and then he started to change his story, said couldn't discuss it on the phone at the time and promised to call me back at 5 with his details, he has now said that he also wants me details, so pursue a claim on me, he has a rear light smash and a very very small dent / scuff on the edge of his bumper.
I have in the menatime now called my insurance company. The police want me to go in, which is impossible to fill in a collision form, so I won't be able to get a crime ref number. My insurance company have said that they will be able to process my claim with he details as they will be able to trace him via his reg number.
He is now not picking up my calls and hasn't called me back.
Am I right in thinking that I am not at fault, I don't want to go down the road of a no fault claim, as my excess is £350.
Where do you think I stand with regard to getting his insurance to pay for me repairs and to claim my excess back.
Do you think his insurance will contest the claim and go for a no blame?
And to think I was properly bend over nice to him, telling him not to worry, that is it only a bump and all will be fine!
Any thoughts - thanks

He's playing the game - talk to your insurers immediately and let them take it from here. You kindness has been rejected I'm sorry to say.0

Don't forget to mention to your insurers about the fact that he said "I'm sorry i didn't see you" when he bumped you, he's basically admitted liability on the scene.0
-
No need to report it to the police unless one party failed to stop and exchange details or someone was injured
Even then, crime reference numbers are for crimes, not traffic accidents.
As above, just crack on with your insurance company
You won't have to pay your excess if he is found to be at fault0 -
Persoanlly, I would just let your insurance company deal with it, thats what you pay them for. It will be obvious from the damage to yur car that he was reversing and backed into you. He cant possibly claim from you seeing as it was him who hit you whilst reversing.
He is panicing, trying to see a way out of it but there isnt one.
As for your excess, do you have legal cover with your car ins. They can sort out your excess (uninsured loss)
Just take advice from your own insurance company, they will sort it out for you.
Ive been hit twice just lately but they were straight forward claims where I dealt directly with their ins companies, seeing as they hit me and I wasnt even in the car. But I still informed my insurance company for information only. On both occasions my premium wasnt affected, yours may be, ask them when you speak to them. Yes, cruel I know when you havent done anything wrong. But thats life and I sympathise.
Let us know how you get on.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

.....Given that he is in his early 20's I phoned him with an update and said that I was happy for him to pay privately for the repair if his excess was massive .......
Your thought process was flawed. For next time, don't worry about the excess involved.
There would be no excess for the young man to pay for your repairs - you only pay an excess when you claim against your own insurance for repairs to your own vehicle. There is none to pay in respect of repairs to a third party vehicle.
(The "scene of the crime" acceptance of liability he gave you won't be binding, and an independent witness is always good to pin down at the scene if you can)0 -
Phone Sainsburys or go in to see if they have any Cctv of the car park.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

Probably no need.
Happened to me in ASDA, old guy reverses into the side of me.
No problems whatsoever, his fault, insurance company dealt with it.
You can't reverse into people at the end of the day and claim its their fault!0 -
I have now contacted my insurance company, and made a claim directly against his policy.
Oddly - he is insured with exactly the same company as mine - just to complicate matters and they have confirmed that he hasn't called them to report the accident.
They said that liability is soley his, from the way I described the accident, which is at least one thing less to worry about, I also assume that they will resolve it fairly quickly as the insurance both.
But thanks for your help!
Any other thoughts appreciated though!0 -

That's because they only have your account.0
