i will go against the grain here and say that i dont think your responce was fair .
your buyer bought the weights and expected them to arrive in one piece ( as you would yourself)
when he has recieved them damaged the first thing you said was "they left here perfect and you are not getting a refund"
i would of asked for photos of damage then went from there. i wouldnt want my buyer out of pocket for something that was out thier control.
if i was in your shoes i would wait till i saw them damaged and prob work out a partial refund .
and just to let you know ebay give the buyer 7days to pay , if you had sent me a few invoices in a couple of days i would of waited till as late as possible to do so ,, but thats just me

If it were me selling them, I'd ask for proof of the damage, ie pics, for them to be returned, then I'd issue a refund based on the proof.
Just because they left you in good condition doesn't mean they weren't used to play football with in the sorting office

How did they pay? If it was PayPal, it is likely they will find in the buyer's favour without question and refund them.0

thanks for all your opinions-- havent received an email back yet- so will let u know what buyer says
re the 7 days things--- i put i my auction (very clearly) that i wanted payment within 2 days as i was getting married and couldnt post for a while after thosse 2 days-- so the seller knew this when they brought it
and the payment was through paypal
i will let u know what happensIs a married woman!! 23rd July 2011 Best day of my life!

You would be best posting this on the ebay forum as well and they will tell you exactly what your rights are and what you should do next. Paypal almost always go on the buyers side and will refund them - normally without question.0

Hi If a case gets opened by The Buyer, Then you can ask that she returns the items for a refund. But only if she gets proof of posting. This is what I did.0

I agree with Sandy - I would be tempted to open a dispute - ask for them to return the items with proof of postage and then refund the items. Unfortunately ebay/paypal (in my experience) sides with the buyer.
Suppose you bought say a glass item from a known shop online, they sent it wrapped only in brown paper and it was broken by the postman you would want a refund. They should have sent it securely. I know this is an extreme example but the same applies here really. Sorry.
I definitely wouldn't do anything outside ebay's dispute though - like offering a refund without the items being in your hands.0 -
Get them sent back so you can see for yourself. I wouldnt refund without doing this.
Also a word about paypal, unless the buyer gives feedback on ebay you wont be able to upload the money to your own account.0 -
I also wouldn't do anything without photos of the "damage". sounds like they are just trying it on.0
