;) It amuses me to think of myself as an under-achieving over-achiever, Mar!

:( Some little barstewards have been nicking copper pipes from central heating systems on flats in the city overnight and the systems they're supposed to be serving are down. A pox on them!

Thanks softstuff, I may well leave out the fertility one as the 'bride to be' has 4 children already - a none to sensible decision based on a terrible childhood of her own.

I am in the 'lifes to short camp' too as OH and I should be enjoying being child free at this stage of our life and doing things we always wanted too. Instead i am dealing with a cantankerous (understandably) man and throwing myself into helping Dd raise the boy. So we just try our very best to enjoy the little things and feel blessed to have a grandson who lives 5 minutes away. I do hope the news is better for your Dad softstuff and thank goodness for the NHS, it may have its faults but at least we all get healthcare unlike some people in this world.

Mardatha it is so frustrating growing your own isn't it, even more so this year. Last night i went to put our newly rescued guinea pigs to bed and the shed was being attacked by at least 30 huge slugs. My skin crawls at the thought of them. I think our hedgehogs will be lying on their backs groaning at the banquet they cant quite finish.

Saipan you can freeze them just as they are and either destone them on thawing or if you are making jam you can pick out the stones when the plums are simmering. They float to the top and you can see them when you stir.

If they haven't gone really squishy, the stones come out really easily with a cherry stoner. Worth getting one if you have your own cherry plum tree. It takes a while because they are such small fruits but you will know all your saved plums are stone free.

Hi everyone :) I haven't posted in ages but have been catching up on all the postings. Love to read them all. I was wondering if gailey is okay? Haven't seen her on in a while. I do hope she is well.
I too watched the programme last night about repossessions, and really felt sad for the woman with her wee baby.
It is indeed serious times, and my dh and I are being as os as possible, and trying to instil it into our children (all adults now) Have a storecupboard well stocked and freezer too, and gathering in bits and pieces for the colder weather ahead as well. Nice to be back again :)
Do a little kindness every day.;)

Thanks for all your well wishes guys, my dad's been getting worse over a few years with this, so it's just a case of living with it as it progresses. Though this is a progression that's a bit more unfortunate.

A reminder for any of you guys who have asbestos anywhere on your property to treat it very carefully. It only takes a couple of fibres inhaled now to kill you in 20 years, best to call in some experts.

Beautifully put HariboJunkie. My life has revolved around my loved ones and I have no regrets. I have often felt 'looked down on' because I've only been able to take low paid, part time work because of family commitments, but maybe that's just my own lack of confidence. Having never had a clue what I wanted to do when I grew up, and still haven't :D, I've found life to be a constant learning curve.

I don't know what I want to be when I grow up. But when I do decide to grow up, maybe I'll figure that out :p. My life now is revolving around hubby and his family here, with some time with my own in England. Funny part is I've never been busier or happier, and I'm not much shorter of money either :rotfl:.

I did the Asda shop early this morning to avoid the mayhem that seems to descend late Friday afternoon. Saw a few whoopsies but only 2 worth having - 40p avocados and 60p for 2 fresh corn on the cob.

I have to confess to buying oat Oat So Simple golden syrup flavour porridge sachets(I know, I know , it's apalling, I'm hanging my head in shame at the indulgence:o) but today I bought the asda own brand at £1 rather than £2 to see what they are like.

The relentless price increases continue - a week or so ago I reported that Smart Price chocolate digestives had rocketed from 36p to 50p - well today they are now 55p. At this rate they will be the price of gold by Christmas! I stopped buying them when they hit 50p so won't be having them again!

My lettuce in the cold frame in coming on well which is great, maybe by next week I'll be able to use some.
My red onions are ready to harvest I think - I have one with a giant bauble on the end of the shoot - guess I left that one too long.

I'm not sure how to store and tie them so will have to do some web surfing to find pictures. I'd hate to waste them after all this effort.

I'm off to nip some more bits off my tomatoes while I remember - will be back later:)

    Hi Scottish Minnie,

Just saw your post, one of the old boys at my allotment said to dry them outside during the day when it's warm and sunny, when the skins are dry, take some old tights and pop them in the legs with a knot between each one, then you can hang them up in a cool dark place. You can then just cut one off when you need one. Hope that helps.
