  • Hey guys please can I join the thread?

Things are getiing harder and harder here. We have cut back loads and admitidly we could cut back even more. I am scared at where all of this is going to end. We have no debts which is good. This month is really hard as we have birthdays, school uniforms etc to buy. The children are off school too so we are going out more.

The way the food prices are going is awful. Hubby likes mr T value shortbread and it was 7p a pack (8 peces of shortbread I think). He hasn't had any for a while but it's now 30p!!! We are trying to grow as much as we can and have been forraging. I don't get te shop prices though, we are being constantly warned about childhood obesity and getting the children to eat healthy but a bag of apples (6) is £1.50+ and the TValue penguin bars are 75p for 15 or something stupid. Personally I buy the fruit as I make everything from scrath but you can see why people are doing it.

nyway I have rambled enough. x

:( Some little barstewards have been nicking copper pipes from central heating systems on flats in the city overnight and the systems they're supposed to be serving are down. A pox on them!

Some similar barstweards pulled this trick with the overhead lines that run the metro in Newcastle a few weeks ago :( meant that nexus paid for everyone to get taxis to work instead though. WIN!! :)

oh I just used a marvellous little thing, first time ever. Just a simple runner bean slicer, what a fab invention. They all went through and were cut in strips with the sides taken off sideways so you could see them. :T

Hiya. Just wondering if you know what brand yours is? No problem if it was only on the packaging and you've already thrown that away :)

I had one of those that lasted for well over fifteen years until it mysteriously disappeared (lost in our last house move, I suspect), so I bought one from eBay last month which fell apart the first time I used it. If you've found one that's (considerably!) more durable I'd be interested to hear about it. Thanks.

Just been to Mr S for a small shop, ticking over nicely and stashing the money away. Lots of things have gone up by 5 - 10p in a week! Its frightening  Bought my 3rd bottle of liquid soap powder this year , have used gloop or shampoo mainly but a few things need a good stain remover. Am just glad I keep stocking up.

Nipped to Hobbycraft to replace my stamp pad and had a good look at the sale stuff - ball of wool reduced to 2.99 and they have never seen a sheep so mainly acrylic - has acrylic gone up? They can't blame that on a bad harvest can they?

It's probably to do with the rising cost of the energy needed to produce it (and the fuel needed to transport it). Either that or it was a poor harvest because the rising cost of land meant they had to plant their acrylic trees too close together ;)

I've cancelled my Sky subscription, it went up from the £33 it should be up to £45 a month and although it's our only indulgence, we can't afford it anymore. I was very angry with them when we were missold the contract, they admitted fault and gave me a couple of month half price but it's not good enough. I've had a few phone calls trying to tempt me back but the offers aren't good enough and all the discount in the workd won't repair my faith in them. Time to seek alternative services I think.

My life plan was always strighforward. I'd finish university at 21, get straight into a great job and be a homeowner by 25. I wasn't fussed by boyfriends. Hmm, life got in the way of that one a bit. I met OH at 18 and had DS a year after. I did finish university a couple of years later than planned but there's no jobs around in the sector I'm qualified in. House prices are totally through the roof and the chances of us being able to afford a mortgage that would be sustainable is next to zero. We have altered the plan slightly and are planning to emigrate in a few years time, lets see how that one goes!

I was always far to disorganised to have a life plan, the only thing I was certain about was a desire to have children & I was fortunate enough to have 4, all grown up now, but still my proudest achievement.
As for pensions/savings did all that & lost it when I got divorced & started again from skint aged 52, now I only save up towards large expenses such as car problems etc. I did laugh yesterday when I heard some twonk on TV saying the if everybody would just ensure they had £10k in savings it would avoid a lot of problems such a repossesion. I'm sure it would, but I don't think I have enough life/work expectancy left to save that much.

I find it very difficult to get a decent nailbrush, no-one seems to have them. I have had to go via amazon to get some wooden ones. My cuticles need constant scrubbing after gardening, even with gloves and my cuticles are growing up my nails, I blame that one time I had my nails done and she cut all my cuticles that was 10 years ago and they have never been good since. I use cuticle cream every single day but I still resort to bending my fingers in when paying someone I know

Oh well watering time yet again and if I wait long enough dh might offer to do tea

I buy wooden double sided (full brush on one side - sideways line of bristles on the other) nailbrushes from Wilkinsons - they were 39p each last time I bought them (I used to buy them several at a time) Have seen very similar ones for sale elsewhere at £2/ go. People are always asking where I get them from because they like the double sided-ness and the fact they're plain wood. They're also bristles as opposed to hard nylon (or at least they look and feel like bristles!)

I tend to go with the flow more than have hard plans - life gets in the way of plans. Sure, I have a plan to be mortgage free in 5 years time, but I have no hard and fast plans of getting there and am not going to stop my life to achieve it - we still go on holiday etc.

Baby no 3 here was a total surprise - had just started a new job. Had gynae issues and was tested for early menopause (in early 30s) and was told we'd need fertility treatment if we wanted more children. Was happy with 2. Less than a year later found myself pregnant with 3. What a joy he is, too. Number 4 was properly planned for :D (unlike number 1 & 2...:o) However, I didn't realise DH would be made redundant after 21 years when I was 8 months pg with no 4 - and then be made redundant again when no 4 was 6 months old. But, life in the main is good - take the rough with the smooth, and all that ;)

;) It amuses me to think of myself as an under-achieving over-achiever, Mar!

Ohmegawd - not more of that going on:mad: I've read that some barstewards are moving on from stealing the lead off peoples roofs to even stealing this sorta thing and its simply beyond belief isnt it?

I think the need is starting to manifest to have some sort of regulation of scrap merchants and the like (ie the places where these characters are selling their stolen goods) in order to try and ensure that scrap merchants have to make some sorta check as to whether their prospective sellers have the right to sell on whatever-it-is to them or no. Some sorta way of proving they actually own whatever-it-is they are selling...

More darn hassle for the rest of us because of these "characters"....

On another tack - good luck on your course and hope it goes well with you on that.:)
