Well - at that point - this thread is not about one person - myself or anyone else...

So - can I suggest we get back to the topic under discussion?:) - as personal discussions etc are not appropriate in this context.

personal to myself - so I will leave it at that on an internet forum. No rebuke intended - but I feel that that is fair to myself to take that stance.

Shame. I was imagining an OS MSE march on Whitehall! :rotfl:

Or failing that, something tangible that we can do other than moan. Cos I have no faith in the normal routes of democracy.

Ceridwen, I have tried for years to make money from my inate ability to turn bits and bobs into valuable craft items and I am intelligent enough to know what I make is good BUT (and obviously a big but) I never make much. The favours are my daughters wedding gift to her friend (as were the last lot) so I am just getting the cost of the 'makings' from her.

As for the state of the world and in particular our sainted isle, well I worry all the time. I have just been in tears watching 'repossessed on ITV. I remember all too well having our home repossessed in 84 so my heart went out to the Mum on there who was days away from losing her home. One cannot judge too harshly how she got herself into that position as she has to deal with it not me.

Lots of you guys have expressed very well whats going on I just hope we will all still be online to encourage each other in the coming months. We have to keep plugging away at the pennies and plans to achieve our own personal plans for the future - what ever that may be.

I do feel very sorry for people whose lives are changing beyond recognition in these hard times and I think it's a shame that those with Life Plans are having to rethink but I think that "life plans" are a dangerous thing to rely on. Life simply doesn't go according to plan. All humans cannot have what they want as that is simply impossible when we all want different things.
My Life Plan was to to find happiness. I achieved that a long time ago and while I have my family, friends and a reasonable enough standard of health to get by, I will continue to be happy. My Life plan could never be my own anyway. I have my husband's and my children's happiness to consider. A life plan that just considered my wants would be unthinkable. I make my own luck and if life deals me a rough hand I try my best to look at the best ways to deal with it. My worry about those who set so much store by their life plan is that there is the potential for them to live in a constant state of disappointment which breeds bitterness and discontent. :( Of course there is the potential for their plans to come true and then they will be happiness personified. :D

:T Excellent post HJ! My thoughts exactly.

Having a rest atm. Ginnyknit I am on favour duty, too. These sound like the same boxes, but in ivory with homemade tablet inside and an organza ribbon with a wee tag with the name and date on. They don't sound half as posh as yours ;) but as my sister said she didn't want any at all, I thought I had better not push my luck. Best get back to it, loads to do. Have a nice weekend all. xxx

This is another fantastic thread to follow on from the others prior to it- I rarely post as I'm now up to page 25 of the last one and am taking detailed notes so ensure I don't miss anything.

As with many others I am facing uncertainty and have had some very difficult things to deal with in my real life these last few months- I don't post details because they are simply too personal to share. We are undoubtedly facing difficult times ahead but I for one try not to second guess what will happen because in my experience I can't predict how things will pan out- I try to take it one day at a time and adapt/cope as events change.

I posted this link on the frugal living challenge thread a few weeks ago- I found it the day I learnt of my redundancy and put things into perspective. Please don't take this as me being glib or flippant- I fully understand that people are having a really rough time. I simply found it a helpful reminder of the blessings I have on a daily basis that I am guilty of taking for granted

As Hester wrote on her blog this morning
"Make plans to make the Gods laugh, I must be a source of constant hilarity to them". Well that sums up my attitude to life plans and any plans in fact.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Ceridwen...my hubby and I had a few goals in our life that we wanted to achieve before we went into our 50 s........one was to work our way up to a decent home and be paid for, which we did, all be it working every hour that was possible ........then he was struck down very badly at 49 yrs old with that stroke 3 yrs ago at the end of this month........resulting in him never working, driving,or leading a normal life again..........

If we hadnt have put so many hours in to finish our mortgage off as a result of the stroke we would probally have had to sell this place......so we do count our blessings daily for that, because at least we do have security, knowing that we wont lose our home.............but at the same time as trying to earn a crust you still must enjoy life.........Now on to a better note....

My dear little plum tree is laden with plums some are now about ready to be picked, so looking forward to plum crumble and custard.:D..........A dear friend gave me some beautiful green gages, they looked very green and sour but boy did they taste so nice so we had a greengage crumble and custard for last nights desert, beautiful....:T didnt have to add any sugar , I dont know if any of you buy the t@sco crumble mix , already mixed just pour over your fruit at 29 p per bag......:D it certaintly makes a cheap afters........doesnt take 1 minuet to prepare in the oven for 20 mins and done and dusted.......I always cook my fruit in the microwave for 10 mins before I put the crumble mix on..........

Wasnt too happy this morning as my car ins runs out 20 th this month went on to confused.com to find all car ins is up by 40 per cent this year, no I havent ever claimed on my insurance, so why the heck do it rise so much every year??...need the car so have to pay up.........everything is up and its crazy for us all to live........

Re whether one makes Life Plans - or just assumes them (as is the case with many of us.....) - I think that maybe/possibly/who knows? it might come down to how things were for us at the outset/what presumptions we were born into/etc.

I think its maybe not so much a Life Plan - as some of us/many of us have a set of Life Assumptions that we start out with. I'm not sure how many of us sit down ever and analyse out what our own personal automatic set of Life Assumptions is.

    Um, not me.

I grew up in a working class family. My parents had higher aspirations for me and I grew up surrounded by books, art and music. I had a reading age of 12 when I was 7 and went to ballet classes.
When I went to secondary school, it was a grammar school where you had to have three 1's in the 11+ and pass an interview. It was kind of assumed that I would go to uni or art college.

I had a bloody good start in life and for that I'll always be greatful.

But, since being an adult, apart from my interests and trying to instill those along with the values I learned along the way to my children, I've gone back to my working class roots regarding money and life and meander along in the stream.

BTW, I've been wondering for ages, are you a Libran? I ask because I am too and my dad was. You see both sides, but you seem a bit more like my dad in that he anylised everything to the nth degree, whereas I tend to go with the flo. :rotfl:
