It was getting tough in 2006 and the workhouse still threatens us in 2011

Good day to you all
I know some of you are trying your hand at preserving your home grown's by drying/dehydrating, so I thought I would let you know that a magazine I bought today, "Kitchen Garden" has a lovely article on dehydrating foods (sun/oven/dehydrators). The magazine is £3.70 and it has a small booklet stuffed inside - like they all do! - but this isn't a catelogue or advertising booklet but a 36 page recipe supplement "using your home-grown produce".0 -
...Just when I thought our motor problem was sorted, it got all complicated again. To only have the Landy means putting an extra seat in the back as there's only 2 usable ones in the front. The only one that can 'legally' take a child seat (for DGS) cost approx £500+vat - gulp! Phoned insurance to ask what they require as it's classed as a modification and it will need certification that it's been professionally fitted. So we think it's going to cost minimum £700. Plus all the inconvenience of having to plan with DH when he needs it for work and only still being able to carry 3 people. So the upshot is that Skoda is being looked at by garage tomorrow to see how much it will cost to do the work it needs. If it comes in less than Landy seat we'll get it done. Then we can either keep it and use it, or it will be in a good condition to sell and fund Landy modifications.....
Can you put DS in the front & get a cheaper seat for the other peeps?0 -

Hi floss2, we had put a bench seat in but from what I was getting from the insurance peeps, I think we'd have been in real trouble had we had an accident. They want certification and garage fitted. Me thinks half the Landies driving around are probably not covered, as we are rather an inventive lot
As DD talking about another baby sooner rather than later, I'd need two seats for little people. DGS loves it in the front and tries to reach to change gear. It's so high up and he gets a much better view than in a car, bless him."It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life, gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are." Unknown0 -

Am doing a cardboard sleeve box ( where the ends flap over) in black, decorated with silver stamps and pink ribbon. Tbh you dont see much of the black card cos of the stamping and ribbon. Then a little bag inside with 5 mints in , not sugared almonds as I find few people like them and as a mass of kiddies at the wedding they would simply either choke on almonds or use them as missiles :rotfl: 5 because I once read thats the lucky number for the original French bonbonierres. This is my second lot of favours this year - and my last I hope. Still its lovely to see them all done....one day... soon......save me!!!!!
GINNY
'Scuse me if I'm speaking outa place...but...errr....are you getting anything back in return for doing those wedding favours? By which I mean - either something you've bartered for or some sort of monetary payment for them?
I'm just saying because I know you are kind-hearted and I dont want to see you imposed upon and this sounds like something that would take hours of your time. If its a good friend and you "owe her one" - then fair enough - but I'm wondering whether it isnt and they are just getting you to do this as a way of getting their wedding favours on the cheap...and do hope you arent being "used" here...:(
Obviously - on from that - family business genes surfacing here - and wondering if this might be useful for a lucrative little sideline??0 -
FTSEs dive bombed. Hang onto hats everyone as we are in for a bumpy ride.
I'm not happy...not happy at all at the economic outlook at present. I was reading about the ordinary younger Greek "person in the streets" earlier today (courtesy of the Guardian newspaper on line) and they seem to feel "locked out of their lives" to use a phrase they are quoting - ie waiting for their lives to start (meaning everything they expected to happen in their lives).
I DO feel very sorry for people who are in this position - as I know that (being a lot older than that) I am sitting here with gritted teeth thinking "My life WILL go according to plan for the rest of it - or there will be hell to pay...". I know one tends to become more "set" on "the life plan WILL happen" as one gets older - but its very hard, at any age, to wonder if the Life will ever "start" on the one hand or will proceed according to Plan on the other hand. I wonder which is the harder position to be in sometimes - trying to "get started" on the one hand or trying to "root your feet so firmly in concrete" (as you are rather older...) that nothing and no-one can alter your Life Plan in a way that doesnt suit you on the other hand because you've spent LOTS of years knowing basically how it will be and are refusing to "change course" against your will. The jury is out on that - as both positions are hard ones to be in.
Whatever position one is in personally (apart from the rich - who still seem to be proceeding with "business as normal" as far as I can see) - I think its "safety belts on/crash helmets on and plan as best one can" and then cross fingers for good luck and a fair wind.
I DO think/know its obscene that I'm having properties for sale in the millions of £s price tag coming up as unwanted ads on websites I visit on the one hand (a new development to me to see that....) - obviously from cookies that have installed themselves on my computer. On the other hand - the ordinary person in the street is often struggling to Start Their Life or Hold Onto Their Life (dependant on their age basically I guess) on the other hand.
The only consolation is "twas ever thus" about conditions living on Earth....they have ALWAYS been hard for most people and we tend to have forgotten that fact in the Western World for some decades now. But it is extremely hard to live on Earth and I think many of us deserve a medal for having had the courage to come and live here in the first place (personal beliefs showing here - but I DO think this way and suspect this might "ring a little bell" with a lot of people if they've read much history/paid much attention to the amount of suffering going on around them (even if they've been relatively immune from it themselves in many ways...).0
