Morning All
I have to admit to being bleary eyed and not quite with it this morning. My family would claim that there is no change there then, but I have a sore throat and generally feel bleugh. Some $%^**^%% in a van deciding to stop in our street and have a conversation with his office at 2.30am this morning hasn't helped my mood.
I'm waiting for the 2nd load of laundry to finish and then I'm off out to a cheap clothes shop with my friend M. It's one I never think to go to and you can really only get there by car, so fingers crossed I will get some bargains. I need some long sleeved t-shirts to layer up under jumpers and some thick leggings if I can find them.
The coffee morning at knit and natter went well, although I ended up trying to teach a lovely lady to knit. She had never picked up a pair of needles before and it felt like the blind leading the blind. She managed to cast on, knit and cast off by the end of the two hours. Time will tell if she remembers any of it.
I finished my 4th pair of handwarmers yesterday and started the 5th scarf this morning. This one is in rice stitch, so that's another new pattern I've learnt. I'm not up to cable yet, but I'm slowly improving.I might get really wild and try knitting a hat next.
Hugs and love to those that need/want them. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx0 -

I figure that loo-roll (the cheapest ones that is) is going up so much because the supermarkets know we HAVE to have it - bar the spong/vinegar method or handy dockleaf method or more Eastwards method (of water and hands - errr..yuk....).
But I raise you - for every can of tomatoes you have I could swop you a looroll:rotfl:. At current count - I have enough in for the next 2 years:rotfl:
I'll be interested to hear further tales of Mr Pumpkin RIP and uses for him - as I've got my eyes out now looking for cheap ones.Non Food Poker (copyright Softstuff, gag from when the Its Tough thread-of the-time was re-convened in the MoneySavers Arms early in 2011 for those who weren't there at the time).
I have just come back from the shops where I have bought too-embarrassed-to-tell-you-how-many 6 packs of Knight's Castile soap, and can report that the 99p Store does seem to be clearing off these, presumably to replace with 5 packs of same as per P0undland.Suffice it to say that I won't be purchasing soap for a considerable time, and, should the river overtop its banks and enter my flat here in Shoebox Towers, there will a LOT of suds.:o
I also spotted but couldn't carry (will go back after work with the trusty pushbike), a better-deal-than-Floralys t.p. Need to get some supplies in of the essentials. Laundry detergent also seems to be going up in price a lot so that could be a useful ahead-purchase for those with a few spare shillings in the housekeeping purse.
Gosh, it's a funny old world, isn't it? I now have even more soap than I have tinned tomatoes and that's saying something.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

DH thought I was mad bulk buying loo roll in costco when the triple velvet was on offer (40 rolls for about £10.50, so about 26p/roll). I only bought 2 packs so have 80 rolls - maybe I should get him to read this thread :rotfl:
I'm also working on the tinned tomatoes...0 -

:rotfl:I can imagine it now. Thanks for the tip about the soap, that`s the one I use. Must get to the shops and stock up.
Also remember the longer you keep soap the harder it gets. That also means it lasts longer. That was a tip I picked up from my Mom years ago.0 -
I`m a long time lurker, occassional poster on this thread and I would just like to say thank you to everyone.
I work from home and when I get chance for a quick break it`s my link with the outside world.
Thank you for keeping my spirits up and sometimes making me laugh out loud.0 -
Why did a vision pop in my head then of GQ paddling along in a giant pumpkin on a sea of Knights castille bubbles :rotfl:
Dgs decided 3 am was time to get up this am  but went back to sleep at 5 for an hour so I am officially a zombie. He has gone to his childminders luckily as OH is a bit poorly today. We think he is missing his Mummy and teething - not a good mix. One more day to go then they are back and I can do 'things' like washing and making stuff.
Also the garden needs putting to bed before the weather breaks. The Kale that was demolished by the slugs is showing signs of re- growth :j One strange thing, I used a pack of tomato seeds from last year that were great (from fleabay) and this year they are all yellow  they are nice and sweet and still performing, my courgettes are still going to, I have one or two every couple of days - so not as bad as I thought.Clearing the junk to travel light

I'm ahead of you in non-food poker stakes, and always will beHow's that for a bluff!
I'm currently using a stash of deodorant purchased in 2010, and expect see the end of it in late 2012. I have hubbys Beconase sorted until early 2012, I'm just coming to the end of a batch of washing powder purchased in 2009 and have sufficient toilet paper until early 2012. Toothbrushes and toothpaste will see me through to June 2012, whilst soap and shampoo should see me through to the end of 2012.
I am however out of tomatoes.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -

And I've been nodding and smiling in agreement with everyone sharing how nature inspires them - it really lifts my spirits and reassures me.
Thanks for the heads up on toilet paper increases. I get the Floralys recycled - usually it's €2.99 but I wait till it's on offer on Super Saturdays for €1.99 for 10. I'll have to check if it's gone up here too - I had a reasonable stash but it's running down now so will have sort that! For anyone unable to stomach the price increases you could look into what Americans call Family Cloths (using rags/cloths and laundering them as you would cloth nappies). Very green and economical too!Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

GQ I am so glad i had swallowed my coffee before I read the suds part!
I use family cloths for myself made from cotton tshirts and some pyjama fabric that was left over. They are pink so the three males in the house do not use them or ask what they are for. They really are best if you have a sink next to the toilet so you can wash and rinse, you and them. We have no room for a bidet in the bathroom but if we do in our next house I will have one put in.
My washer broke down just before I got back from holiday (hubby had to come back early for work). The circuit board has been fixed once and now it is fried. I do have the money to get another but I am waiting to see if Dhs car passes its test first.
I am hand washing and I filled the large planter that I bought last time the washer broke with water and a wash tab then soaked the bedding overnight outside. This morning I dashed to the Asian supermarket and bought a gigantic washing up bowl for rinsing and stuck it under the outside tap. I brought the spindryer outside and plugged it in at the shed socket. I had about three washer loads done in less than an hour. Brilliant!
I remembered that our Amah used to do the washing like that outside the kitchen door when we lived in Singapore.
I may well keep this up and just do the washing in the bathroom when the weather is colder. It is so much faster.0 -
