Fact for the day- A car door shutting on your fingers hurts like ^&*())*&^$£$%^&*()^%()*
I was getting out of my friend's car and had my middle and ring finger of my left hand in the wrong place when the door closed itself due to the car being parked on a slope. I don't think I've caused any major damage, just some fetching black bruising under and at the base of my nails. I'm still feeling slightly sick and they are hurting, so I think dinner will either be down to DH or the local take away.
Fact of the day two: Why is it when my back's really really bad I drop everything I reach for and have to bend down to pick it up?
AND..why is the stray tissue only left in pockets of a dark wash?

Hello all. Thank you for your support about my wee hennies. I got back from work this afternoon to find about a hundred feathers all over the pen  . However Hepzibah did seem a little brighter, and her crop, which had been impacted, was soft again, so I am hopeful that she will be more like herself tomorrow and maybe on the road to recovery. I will still have them both put to sleep together when the time does come, although it will break my heart.:(
I have only had time to skim read a lot of the posts as starting work again has knocked the stuffing out of me. I am so tired tonight but I have some notes to transcribe before going to bed, so I am going to switch the internet off after this post (to avoid temptation) and get on with it. I'm not complaining as I enjoy the job, but it will probably take me a week or two to get back into the routine after being unemployed for some months. However, I am not looking forward to tomorrow. Some genius has timetabled seven lectures in a row for my poor student (and poor me!) - seven hours without a break! I think we will be negotiating with the lecturers for a late start and early finish to the ones around lunchtime so the students have chance to get something to eat and at least go to the loo. This is probably the same genius who timetabled a lecture in a second floor room in a building without a lift when one of the students uses a wheelchair .... this is a second-year student so they did know about her needs .
Kittie that is very scary about the solar storms. Will it affect the water supply ie will we be able to flush the loo? Presumably some form of electricity is needed in parts of the country to pump water? I don't know much about solar storms. Will it be safe to go out and about or are we better off staying indoors as much as possible?
Greent sorry to hear about your guinea pig. Roseanna79 I wish you a peaceful, love-filled last weekend with your little cat xxx
Right, I'd better get on with these notes or my students will get a load of gibberish where my head has slumped onto the keyboard :rotfl::rotfl:Aspire not to have more but to be more.

Went to Mr T's tonight (shock, horror) this was an unplanned visit as I was going to Lidl but got lost due to a diversion and saw the words Superstore so tootled in and found it to be a Tesco! Well the price drop thing is a joke! I got a 6 pack of those nice rice puds from Cooltrader on Sun for 70p and Tesco had them on BOGOF but they were £3.48:eek:, even BOGOF that aint cheap. I got my milk and couple of bits I really need, anything else I will go elsewhere. Mr T must think were soft.
Ive been that hot today I felt like I had wet myself when I got out of the car. Sorry if thats TMI :rotfl:I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round0 -

Poor you Hobsons Choice. My recommendation is a pair of kitchen tongs. Not so good if you have to pick up anything heavy, but good for tissues and lighter things. I also use them for dragging things forward in high cupboards.0 -
Gosh, it's been hotter today that it has in the height of summer! Still, it meant that I was able to spend some time up in the field with my chickens. I do miss sitting with them when it's all horrible and wet. Little Sweetpea who I got as a chick earlier in the year has bloomed into a lovely friendly little thing and she always comes and sits or stands on me and has a chat.
And I was honoured to have my biggest girl (an Orpington, she really is huge!) also come and investigate my lap for a bit. She doesn't really like being picked up, but she decided to hop up after seeing Sweetpea on me.
I did do some washing, but I spent so much time with the girls, I completely forgot about it! Will have to hang it up first thing in the morning.0 -
Did I miss the post about your puss Rosanna??? What is wrong? Big hugs to poorly puss. x
Does anyone know where to buy cheap coconut milk please?0 -
smileyt - that sounds like good news
sdg - ouch!! be careful you havent broken anything - a friend had a small broken in her finger that way.
redlady - well done on the zumba!! our kittie is putting weight on:j:j which she needed badly - she was only 1.8kg last week but is now 2.1kg which is amazing. Maybe she is adding the weight you lose!!
We had bbq tonight as the weather is so beautiful and it has helped me clear some bits and pieces from the freezer. As it is my birthday my parents came too and the kids had a really good time - DW is now on working overtime with all the dishes though. Its so nice to actually be able to use the garden and enjoy having the french windows thrown open finally!!.0 -
Ooh SDG - I had that happen years ago. Hurt like XXXX but nothing broken. Person who did it exclaimed at my shouts of pain saying he didn't mean to do it - I said "I know that but it doesn't stop it da_n well hurting!"
Warning - may be TMI
Luckily with modern cars the rubber door seals tend to prevent breaks - unlike 40+ years ago when my uncle trapped his dad's finger (my grandad) - cut the top of the finger off except for a flap of skin  He put it back on, gran covered it in a clean hanky, off to the hospital and got it stitched back on - never got the feeling back but had a whole finger.
I've had to wait in 2 days for puppy food order - bought 3 big bags to see pup through to 8-9 mths, one arrived as parcel number 2 of 2 at 5pm yesterday. Asked where was number 1 of 2 and got "must be on the van". It arrived at 3pm today. But I did do a price comparison, got free delivery and a discount for a first order so the actual stuff/price/quality I'm well pleased with. Tried pupstar with a sample first before the big order
The supermarket with the much publicised price reductions has sent me a total of 12 weekly coupons for a total of £26 off a total £240 of shopping. But it's only £2 or so a week. On a grocery challenge budget of £80 per month that's nearly 3 months doing all my shopping at Mr T. NOTI can save the £2 by doing my usual shopping around so the coupons went in the bin except for one for £3 which I used to stock up on dried milk, pasta, etc.
GQ - and any other pumpkin lovers - Mr M has pumpkins for £1 each - very good food value (ie cost per serving) and I would be taking advantage if I hadn't grown my own.
Good luck to all with poorly furbabes - having gone through a rotten experience recently I can really feel for you and your furries/featheries. Got a shock yesterday myself when I narrowly avoided running over someone's escaped dog - said dog back with owner with no real harm done. Well one thing that did come to my mind when I went to bed last night(thats when I do my thinking)........my son was born in Dec 24 1975, we hadnt got a penny most of us was hard up and happy back then:D.....I didnt have a cot for the babe so my mother said well its either he sleeps in his pram or I will go upstairs and empty one of my drawers to sleep him in, so that was it he slept in a deep draw until I went to the local sale ground and bidded for a second hand wooden cot, cant remember how much we paid for it but spect it was peanuts..................I dont know if you did this but I use to get secondhand burco boilers at the sale ground auctions to boil the nappies in, oh wernt they the days when we use to boil in fairy snow ..........then put them in the bath to rinse then get them on the mangle:eek: no fabric softner back then .........................then on the line to dry smelling so clean and sparkling white..............those times were bloody hard indeed ................... phew me ive come over all hot and sweaty just going back to 75......I got myself a secondhand twin tub washing machine and felt so well off with it............how the hell did we get through it all ............
I've still got and its still in use the burco boiler my mum used to boil my nappies in over 40 years ago, came in handy when we were between washing machines. My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
