Christ, I wasnt interested in Surf Dude for his brains!!!! Although I suspect all is not quite as it seemed as he was wearing a pinky ring. Not really something the average surf dude would wear
He also teaches skiing so I may have to investigate the possibilities of going in Feb! I wonder whether I can send the OH off on a sailing trip???:D
After waiting for ages for the new HFW book (Veg) to come out, the OH decided to treat me to it before we went away. What a disappointment! Really shocked at HFW coming up with just soups, salads and curries. Not to mention things on toast. Very poor so dont buy it.
Now Plenty on the other hand is a cracking veggie cookbook.0 -
Thanks for the 'recommendation' RedLady, I was thinking of getting that HFW book as I'm always on the lookout for more yummy food, but shall just borrow it from the library now!0

Seriously, dont bother. It really isn't worth the money. I can pick out a few recipes to try but given how much I enjoy Plenty, I think I will just stick with that and Rose Elliott for my veggie bits. I am really disappointed as the Every Day book has some cracking recipes in it.
Oh and HJ - you do know there is a sale online for that same shop you had the voucher for dont you???0 -
GQ, a cardamon pod is filled with lots of tiny black seeds. Some recipes call for using the little seeds out of the pod, but other recipes just use the pods whole.
And sometimes you roast them gently with a few other spices and grind to powder.
Goes well with coriander (seed - only one colour), fresh ginger and maybe a very little ground clove (or about three cloves) with tomatoes and chickpeas. You start by caramelising onions cut into rounds in butter or marg and then add the spices and tomatoes and cook for a while. Add tinned chick peas and heat through.
But black cardomon will do - just use fewer pods.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Fact for the day- A car door shutting on your fingers hurts like ^&*())*&^$£$%^&*()^%()*
I was getting out of my friend's car and had my middle and ring finger of my left hand in the wrong place when the door closed itself due to the car being parked on a slope. I don't think I've caused any major damage, just some fetching black bruising under and at the base of my nails. I'm still feeling slightly sick and they are hurting, so I think dinner will either be down to DH or the local take away.
TAKE YOUR RINGS OFF!!! If your fingers swell up then the hospital would have to cut them off
There is a warning about that at our local A&E which says, if you have a hand injury, please removed rings immediately.
Hope the bruising isn't too bad0 -
 I found out yesterday that the market rate for an ex-council house rented out in the private sector (4 bedroom) is currently £10,000 per annum in this city.
Thanks for cardomom info; it's a wonder I'm still alive how I cook, isn't it?.........:rotfl:
Post and rush as am on break...((hugs)) to all.
A 2 bed ex council house will rent out for £800 a month here which is £9600 a year :eek:0 -
I remember looking at a great site that I think was recommended by Nualabuala -but I don't remember the name. eco..... or ecuc.... something like that. I'm sure someone will be able to enlighten me as I have spent so much time trawling thro' plder posts - and enjoying reading them so much I am getting nowhere.
Scammers in this area at present - they phone and say they are from Windows solutions and your computer is infected. Will you switch it on etc and than apparently they make it go slower or something and then recommend their solution for repairing it. This may cost nothing or a small charge, they say. I have spoken to 2 people who have lost £400 and one lady who told them that she was surprised her computer was infected as she didn't have one. They rang me yesterday morning when my computer was in for repairs - to the keyboard - nothing to do with being infected. When they rang I had not heard of this but didn't like the sound of it and told them I was in the middle of an emergency - in an emergency like type of voice - as I was putting the phone down I could hear her saying -'What time can I ring back - What time Tell me what time' When I collected my laptop from repair man he told me all about it.Treat the Earth well,It was not given to you by your parents,It was loaned to you by your children.Masai proverb0 -

That's wicked. I'm in a small provincial city not a major metroploitan area, and these kind of houses are 1930s jobbies with 2 modest-sized bedrooms and 2 box bedrooms. £850 pcm = £10,200 p.a.
Is yours big city rate eg Lunnon Town?
No - M4 corridor though which bumps prices up a lot even though its still a long commute to london.
It is wicked - I was lucky that I bought my house quite a long time ago from the LA so its affordable but I couldn't afford to buy here now...0 -
GQ - same here as Frugal, the last tiny house we rented was lounge, kitchen and downstairs loo, two bedrooms (one of which was tiny!!) and a bathroom, £750 per month plus over £100 on CT, and about that each month on gas and leccy, then add water, food, petrol, insurance, basic sky to stop us going mad (as we couldn't afford to really go out) and if you have any debt's to pay off you are properly stuffed!! you either need HB or two incomes, and especially at the moment i'd say more are getting HB
