  • Sorry to hear about the piggie greent and the hens Smiley.:(

One step forward ten steps back here atm. :( Preparing the house for a harsh winter and carrying out expensive repairs is as emotionally draining as it is financially. :o

Feeling thoroughly fed up with it all. Thank goodness for OH who's managing to keep my spirits up.

Will be back when I'm in a better mood.

SMILEY T.......so sorry to read of your terrible problems you are having with your hens..........IF I were in your position I would definately have the 2 hens put to sleep together......I do believe you know thats what you have to do........and I also know how painful it is.............mareks disease is not nice as any disease.....its not curable too.............

Its very hard for us to say to you"you must do this do that".......at the end of the day you have to make that decision.........

Ive lost a few hens at different times this year and with mine its old age, so they dont suffer, you must take them to the vets if you think they are in pain and suffering...............its the kindest way for them....I too love my 31 hens like you but I wouldnt hesitate to have anyone of them put to sleep if I knew they would not get better or they were in pain.....I do hope you make the right decision and then feel you have done all you could for them..........god bless you.........sheila

greent, I am sorry to hear of your piggies passing. When one of my female piggies died I got the lonely pig a boyfriend from a local rescue centre. He had been neutuered and they are both about the same age.
http://www.guineapigrehome.org.uk/ It may be easier than getting two babies?
  • smileyt I've had Hen's, Geese, Guinea Fowl and Bantams. How about getting a rescue hen as a friend. You have all the housing and kit to make any feathered creature happy. Try not to let a sad experience get in the way of having happy hens. I'm afraid when I've said good buy I've done the deed myself but I've known my hen has had a good life. ( never eaten ) The next one will be different they all are.

Found out today there a re two half past fours in a day :( DGs is teething and decided we should all be up with him :eek::eek: to say the least I am a little shattered -come home Dd all is forgiven!

GQ you seem to be waxing very lyrically about your pumpkin - does it have a name ? Glad it all turned out so well.

Nipped in Mr A and got some whoopised fruit, went in for nappies really. Am now roasting some spuds my neighbour left on the doorstep for us - yum!

Smileyt its a hard decision but you have made the best one, I feel. If you cannot have more girls then best let the last one go - you know I would have had her if it wasn't for the Mareks. Sending hugs :o

To anybody worried about the news, or feeling overwhelmed - just go outside and look at the sky. Look at the clouds, the colours, the moon, the stars. They have looked or shone down on so many millions of years and they will be there tomorrow/next week/next month/next year. The world is much greater than we are and it keeps on turning... and we won't fall off. Have faith and face the future head-on, it's the only way to do it ! :D

I only recently heard of http://www.alwaysinfashion.com/amber_teething_necklaces so too late for my babies but I have 2 friends (who don't know eachother) who absolutely swear by these - I've no idea how or why they work as no point in me researching it now but you might want to take a look and ask around.

One of the friends is a nurse so you wouldn't necessarily expect her to go down the natural route.

Natural teething powders are really good too and babies absolutely love them! Although if they get it on their little faces it looks like they are little coca!ne users :o

Hope that helps - sleepless nights are awful.

And on that note, I am off to bed! Since I stopped alcohol I am sleeping so much better and the dark evenings are making me want to go to bed earlier!

    Nite nite everybody x

The News? What is that? :D

I read a few daily headlines on my android phone but never ever watch the news anymore. Far too depressing for me, especially in winter time.

Sending love and good thoughts to smiley, greent and anyone else dealing with the loss or sickness of their animals. It's so moving to see how kind and tender people are and it strengthens my faith in humanity.

Same here - I skim the headlines and only read further if it seems like something I need to take action on in some way. For the most part there is nothing much I can do so no point getting bogged down with it - I just try to get on with things as best I can and appreciate what I've got.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Yes, I like to look at the sky. More often I stand with the trees, their roots keep them upright (usually) during life's turbulent times. Very reassuring and grounding. Same as the sea. I could sit for hours watching it. Comes in, goes out. There is a lot out there in nature to keep your spirits up. Look for signs. I remember one time I was battling demons and went for a riverside walk. I sat on a bench and saw a moorhen swimming like b&ggery against the river tide. Didn't give up and got to its place and darted into the riverbank. Good lesson that day. 'My' message from nature/ the Universe is white feathers and I love seeing them around.
Sounds like I'm doom and gloom but I'm not:). Just recharging the batteries and concentrating on 'being'. Am reading a fab book by John Lane, The Spirit of Silence: Making Room for Creativity. You should be able to get in library - his Timeless Simplicity is excellent too.
