It was getting tough in 2006 and the workhouse still threatens us in 2011

Just a quick post to say thank you for your comments. Lutzi, I've told him not to leave the toaster, or any of his cooking equipment in the kitchen but just to bring them out when he needs them. Also has a large lock tight for the fridge. Thanks so much for the link but I've reserved a small chest freezer for him from Currys. Fingers crossed it all goes according to plan, and it was very interested reading about the disabilities legislation. Any problems and I'll bare it in mind. I hope your DD is settling in well and enjoys her course.
So off tomorrow and a lovely drive through Wales. When I visit other DS's in the south, I always get a thrill on the way home when the Snowdonia mountains start looming in the distance. It's that I'm home feeling. We're lucky to live by the sea, but it's the mountains that have my heart.
(((hugs))) to anyone in need and well done HJ :T"It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life, gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are." Unknown0 -

Well done Haribo, must have been difficult to summons up the nerve, so glad you won the day!
Kate - so you are up near Poppit, or just the other side. We dont go up that way often enough, it's lovely up there. We will be doing our van round in the villages north of us, but not over the county line as that causes all sorts of council trading issues.
We drove up from Pembs to Anglesey (and back again the same day) to see the van, and the scenery around Snowdonia is breathtaking, we hope to get time to explore the area more.
The local ladies are well into their baking and jamming, I am looking forward to learning a lot from them - I hope to be able to run a coffee morning once a week. There is nowhere in the village where they are to meet apart from the local pub, and some of the older residents do not get out much, so it would be a good way to get everyone swapping recipes and OS tips.Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -

I am the 'other side' at Mwnt!!!
The Cardi's are well known for their ability to make one penny do the work of two. I wouldn't personally call it tightJust sensible. The ladies here do make lots of cake and jam too, they all seem to be able to make cake! Makes for good tea-rooms

I think we both used to post on the "Frugal Living" forum? Glad to hear you like living in Wales. I wondered how you were getting along.
We are still near Manchester but I shall be heading south to stay with DD1 in a couple of weeks as she has just had her first baby. She had to have a caesarian and as she lives in a second floor flat with no lift life is going to be difficult for a while.0 -
HJ congratulations - its awful going through all that to defend your right to payment. Hope you are feeling much better now and things work out. I don't envy you being in business in this day and age.Clearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
Well done Haribo :j:j:j. What a smart, brave and dignified lady you are. I sooo admire the stance you've taken over this. Go you eh?
Loving the stories from all of you about where feels/ is home. I'm in the city now but as I type this am looking out our bay window onto a beautiful park, filled with old trees (well, not filled exactly). I love trees, love listening to them, watching them sway, standing under them. I also love the sea and really enjoy going along the beach or the coast for a walk. I find it rejuvenating. I missed hills when we lived in Suffolk but the riverside walks there were lovely and the forest at Dunwich stole my heart. hhmm a couple of you live near there so you'll know what I mean.
2nd day thick carrot and celery soup here, blended up with a big potato so that helps it stick to the ribs:j. A cold wind but lovely in the sun. Feels like autumn when you're caught in the wind but it also felt blimmin' warm when I walked home with 2 long arms from carrying bags with veg (Te$co market place carrots are a staple here - lots for about 75p, also have their market place potatoes for about £1 as they have lots of big ones for baking). Anyway, that was the equivalent of my gym workout. It was followed by a dog walk, soup then a snooze on the settee under a blankie while a relaxation CD played and the dogs snored.
Have sent an email asking for delivery info for a veggie box but haven't heard back yet.
Off to make large mug tea and have a quick hoover round. The dogs were romping about and playing and they've kindly raked up hidden fluff from the carpet.
