Thanks kittie for the shiny new thread,
am loving the firepit idea - have been eyeing one up for a while but couldnt justify the cost - but if I can use it to get rid of toilet roll inners and shredded post that would be great and would be warm for a nice evening relax outside too!!0 -

For burning I use loo roll inners stuffed with junk mail or anything confidential that I've shredded and the 'wood' garden waste (tree and shrub cuttings). By the time we've sat outside in front of this we don't notice a chill inside!

Love any fire outdoors (but not in a scary fire-starter way!) and for many years have spent weeks at a time camping with only a woodfire for cooking, hot water and heat. We have discovered that the best ever fire-burner - in terms of giving off tremendous heat - is the drum from our old washing machine! When our last washing machine died we decided to see how much of it we could reuse - the sides became compost heap walls, the plastic coated wiring became plant ties, the glass front became a slant-sided fruit bowl, and the drum became our outdoor woodfire. Apparently the drums can make great lamps too!0 -
Kittie if you highlight the word you want to use then highlight it and click on the picture of the globe with the binoculars on them( in the toolbar) then you paste the address of the thread or webpage into the box that pops up (delete the wee bit of content that's in the box when it first opens, first) HTH and makes sense. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

Jackieglasgow - thanks for the lesson on linkies - v useful
The blackberries are well and truly out down here - got quite a few today and will be off to my favourite foraging spot tomorrow first thing to get loads of blackberries plus, hopefully, more field mushrooms.
Ever since the water meter was fitted the water bill has been higher than the old rates  However my change of circumstances and some radical water saving have led to me getting a cut of over 60% in my direct debit and going well under the old water rates. :j
Even more exciting than the savings on water however is the news that my butternut squash plants have started having babies :rotfl:There have been a few male flowers up till now but when I checked today there are definitely 2 female ones. I've put the squash on the allotment - it was really too late to put them in but I thought they would cover the ground and suppress weeds so went ahead anyway. I'm really impressed with the growth rate of the squash and the rhubarb down there too - it seems all those years of being covered by nettles have actually done the soil some good :T
Yet more sewing tonight - I've really got right back into it and have several projects lined up.

and...thank you Kittie for the new version of the Its Tough thread and welcome all...:D0 -
I have just schlepped up the hill from Bournemouth Library carrying about a stone-and-a-half of improving books. As this is probably about how much I am overweight, the books will help in more ways than one: give me much-needed exercise, remind me how much easier it would be to walk up the hill if I wasn't carrying that much weight AND teach me "stuff".
The only problem is I am now too exhausted to put any of the good ideas contained therein into practice
I have also just discovered that I put the kilo of blackcurrants I picked last week into the small fridge and not the freezer as I had thought. Result: one bowl of mildew blackcurrants:eek: instead of the base of my blackcurrant cordial.
Still, it's LOVELY to come home and find a new shiny tough thread! I must now move my heavy carcass into the kitchen and make supper. I'll be back later...0 -
