I had wondered at one stage about writing a cookery books, I figured there was a gap in the market for easy, flexible, cheap and inaccurately measured recipes! But I'm getting ahead of myself by far there. :o

No you're not, how many people do you think are out there that would pay a small amount per recipe? Probably quite a lot. Lots of people don't want to buy the whole cookbook (how many people... and be honest here have made everything in a cookbook they own? Probably very few)

Softstuff I think that's a fantastic idea, we can test your recipe for you (ie check if the methodology works for a third party) and it would be good for you to create, even if it never comes to anything, you can get some satisfaction from doing it. I would like to see the chilli /enchillada pie recipes please, and will see if they can be adapted to veggie for my lot. :)

Thanks Unixgirl and Jackie. I might look a little closer at the idea soon. Of course if I was serious I'd make a bit more effort to write out the recipes rather than just throwing them down as I have on here!

The chilli one can certainly be made veggie, I've made it very successfully with dried TVP. I'll post the recipes tomorrow all being well.

oooh a new thread to "try" & keep up with :)

Softstuff why not start a recipe blog as a trial?

I harvested my first ever potato crop on Sunday...5lb 11.5oz of lovely Charlottes. I grew them in one of those woven polyproplene sacks you can buy from places like W!lk0s. That was from 5 seed potatoes so I was quite pleased with the yield (although it's not going to break any records lol). The sense of satisfaction as I furtled them out of the compost was brilliant. :j :j :j

However my tomatoes this year...1 solitary fruit :( Lost one plant to the dreaded blight & the other plant has just been so battered by the rain & storms we had. I'm disappointed by this as I've never had failure with tomato crops before...oh well a first time for everything I guess!!! :o

OOOh I saw blackberries yesterday, so with all this sunshine they should be nice and sweet in a couple of weeks. I think they are going to be huge crops for us all to forage this year as the bushes are so full. Smileyt bet you jam jars ready hunny!

So yesterday i was busy and when I popped on...lo and behold... a new thread - Yay.

Today I have a very long list of things to do and have done some so far. Just hoping I don't run out of steam as I feel a bit wobbly today. If all else fails I will sit and knit.

Cupboards groaning, freezers full and no need to go near a shop for days - I hope - but the biscuit situation may force my hand, unless I make Twinks you know whats (shush don't say it out loud or everyone I know will be round to test them!).

The only "Harvesting" I have done to day is the deep, dark, depths of my freezer. I'm defrosting a Gammon joint that I bought when they were on sale between Christmas and New Year; that will be cooked and some sliced off for a meal, the rest will be utilised in other meals. I'm cooking lambs liver in the slow cooker which I bought at the same time (64p to feed 4 - can't be bad :D )

Noticed some lambs hearts lurking down there too ... think Sunday maybe stuffed lambs heart

(I'm going to blame the nostalgia thread that's currently running, made me feel all nostalgic for "traditional hearty fayre" :D )

hi everyone -have harvested all the potatoes from one of my bags todays - the other bags all seem ok still growing so am leaving well alone - this was the charlotte potatoes that I threw in an Ikea bag when they sprouted in the cupboard - am really pleased we got something for nothing effectively.
We rae plagued with midges today the kitchen is coated with them and i cant step in the back without being attacked so am staying put indoors.

Still only have flowers on the tomato plants and am beginning to give up hope of ever seeing a tomato grow. Will begin courgette harvest tomorrow so am hunting courgette recipes.

FTM fab idea for the comforter, I got my Mums double duvet ( barely used - still searching for perfect bedding silly old sausage she is) and I have made 2 cot quilts and am about to make a padded cushion for an antique childs campaign chair for DGS. Theres loads left for cushion pads too.

I also use fleeces as batting for quilting and it works really well. A quid for a fleece at Ikea makes loads of things.

its far too expensive to buy specialist batting etc nowadays so am doing what they would do in the old days and re-using what I have. I love this way of life.

Kidkat Have you any mint plants ? Hanging up bunches in your kitchen will deter them.
