SG31000 Just de-lurking to say I think it would be really nice if you could buy some of her crockery to remember her by. Some one will presumably be coming with her to the house, so hopefully they will be able to help you arrange that.
What a lovely person you are! :A
Sending you calming vibes xx0 -

Hi, went to a PYO place with the family (fairly cheap way to entertain them plus gets food at the same time) some of the fruit was quite reasonable too, turned the raspberries into several jars of nice jam/coulis stuff for having on toast or yoghurt/ice cream when i can buy them but does anyone have a recipe for a good way to use cherrys? I dont want to waste them...0

SDG what a lovely lady you are - I would see how the land lies when she arrives and maybe have a quiet word with whoever brings her to find out if she is still making her own decisions -the carer or the lady herself might be able to tell you whats happening but the appropriate avenue would be to go through the solicitor - you may find he will let you buy stuff direct but it maybe that the contents are going to a house clearance dealer and in which case you would have to buy from him or his auction room. I used to work in an auction room and that was normally how things worked.Peace will be mine

I was housekeeper for an eccentric elderley lady some years ago and managed with the help of Macmillan nurses to keep her wish of passing away at home. She was an antique collector and told me that the last thing I had to do before I handed the house over to the solicitors was pick any one thing from the house to remember her by, out of all the vast collection ( I mean every inch of wall and floor) I picked a small brass round box which I treasure to this day.
Just been on a trek to the donkey sanctuary to help value some stuff for the summer fayre and picked a small bag of blackberries on the way home. Im not going to have much time this week to do more and I am hoping they last till next week as I need a few more before I begin jam making.Clearing the junk to travel light

Mrs VegPlot, you PM'd me this morning to ask for this recipe so here it is; it's a smasher but I cannot claim any credit as it's not mine. Could tell you whose but she's a private citizen and I won't out her on the web........:rotfl:
750g fresh beetroot, peeled and coarsely chopped
1 onion, chopped
400 g green apples, peeled ,cored and chopped
410 ml white wine vinegar
2 tbsp lemon juice
125g granulated sugar
95g lightly-packed soft brown sugar.
Method:
Ingredients plus 2 teaspoons sale in a large pan and stir over a low heat without boiling until all the sugar has dissolved.
Bring to boil and boil, whilst stirring, for 20-30 mins or until the beetroot and onion are tender and the relish is reduced and thickened.
Spoon immediately onto clean, warm jars and seal. Turn upside down for 2 mins then invert and leave to cool. Label and date; leave for 1 month to allow the flavours to develop. Stores for a year in a cool dark place unopened, otherwise refrigerate after opening and consume within 6 weeks.

Gosh, what a day at t'office; mega IT problems for hours. Everything my lot do it on the pooters (paper? wossat?) so when it goes wrong, it goes badly wrong. All mended now.
I'm having a lull between the bit of the day which I sell and the bit of the day I call mine own and debating going to the lottie for a little. Tis only 15 mins bike away. How I envy those who have gardens actually outside their homes....what bliss that would be. Still, at least I'm handy for work.
Going to bobble around a bit and will catch you all up later. Hope everyone has a good evening.
EDIT; Mardatha.....noooooooo.....don't do it......Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

If you search for vintage curtains
or sometimes just curtains
on ebay then you often find some larger examples with good linings etc. Only thing is you have to remember the cost of p&P when deciding your top bid, and it's probably best to avoid designer fabrics and things loved by shabby chic-ers as those get very pricey.
SDG I'd definitely call the solicitor back in the first instance as they may know the current state of the old lady's mental health and also if there are any relatives who may be coming to house clear. WE know your intentions are good and honourable but some relatives (especially those who have done very little in the way of caring) can get very nasty when it comes to possessions.
Cherry recipe are hard to suggest without knowing amounts and whether you have sweet (can eat raw) or sour (can only be used in cooking and preserves) cherries. If you Google "cherries preserves" with the UK only option on then you'll get loads of suggestions for cooking now and preserving for later.

Kittie, congrats on your success with lacto fermentation - did you write out your method anywhere? I've been looking back but can't find it if you did. Would love to have a go myself as need new preserving techniques ow that freezer gets used for reduced items etc.0
