Is it too late?
Options
I was thinking of planting some seeds of greens like kale or maybe cabbage - on the windowsills so they would start off quickly , to feed my hens. They eat a lot of greens and I am now a weed/kale free zone cos they et it all
Would it work even if just for a short time to give them more greens?

AIUI, you can in theory grow greens right the way thrugh the winter on a windowsill or in a greenhouse. This is what I'm intending to do once my tomatoes/aubergines/peppers are out of my greenhouse anyway. I also scattered some salad veg seed in my old wheelbarrow (I'm using it as a planter) this weekend and fully expect it to come up (well, if the snails don't get it first of course...)0

plenty of time for leafy veg yet. You can also get a winter lettuce which grows through the colder months.Tim0

You see, that unmentionable green stuff does have a use!

Is this code? Or were you laughing so hard you couldn't see to type? :rotfl::D:rotfl:If I'm over the hill, where was the top?0 -
I sowed some kale seeds 3 weeks ago in a tray, it's come up but not growing much yet. I've also sown some spring cabbage seeds this weekend in pots, hoping I'm not too late.
(NB - I don't have hens)

I would give them Swiss chard. I grow that for my hens, mainly because it's quick and the insects dont bother it much. Eat it myself too.
The variety I use is Lucullus, which is supposed to be extra hardy and it grows large. It's a boring light green, but the hens don't seem to mind.0
