Sexist Car insurance

But what the statistics don't show is what happened 2 minutes before the accident when you were getting frustrated at the old dear driving inconsiderately at 20mph on a 40mph road or the the woman stopping at a roundabout when it's clear !!! or the woman who thinks she's driving a bus rather than a Nissan Micra and stops because she can't get through a space beig enough for 3 busses !!!!

It's a TRUE fact - Women have less accidents, but cause far more !!! Happy New Year !!!0 -
Erm, well, I never said I been driving for 20 years.
Sorry, I mixed you up with GeorgeousGeorge in post #31 who has been driving 20 years. Why does someone always have to come alone and make something so serious!
Well I ride a cycle and a motorcycle (as well as being a car driver).
As a "vulnerable" road user I take it very seriously because I as well as wanting to be alive, I want to be in one piece.Again, could this not be because were driving more
No I don't think so.
But if you want to disagree and prove the entire industry incorrect then pease post some EVIDENCE.Come up with YOUR reasons
No !!
I don't run and insurance company and I'm not an industry expert so like you my reasons are not relevant.
What is relevant are the facts and the evidence.
Any company that wants to ignore these will go out of business soon enough.Remember, this is research undertaken for those looking to make more profit from their customers.
Please post your evidence to show why the Social Issues Research Center has connections with the insurance industry.0 -
As for courses, I don't care how many courses or advanced driving things someone has been on. If they have drove 100k miles without an accident and someone else has drove 5k miles without an accident, BUT with advanced driving course under their belt, I'll feel more comfortable sat next to the one who drove 100k miles.
This is EXACTLY the way insurance companies work.
Entirely on claims history.
Fact is women have less claims.I think that she got you and I confused. Bless her.
Apologies.
I should never have attempted joing a discussion.

LOL its true, Micra's are the worst. Always holding everyone up.
I'll now post about something I witnessed a week before christmas.
I did not witness the actual accident, but was one of the first on the scene, and as a qualified first aider, helped out (but not much I could do).
The accident was where a MALE driver was overtaking and a FEMALE driver was hit head on. The MALE overtaking was doing so because of road rage. I would have done the same.
I'll post what happened, but, first, I would like to know who you think caused the accident?
Who caused the accident?0 -
Getting back on topic, it is clear that those insurance companies are sexist. a similar situation exists in small businesses.
It is far riskier for small businesses to employ women of child-bearing age. There are, of course, laws to ensure that women are not discriminated against. Sadly, the laws do not work the other way around.
You cannot argue against the ststistics, they are what they are. However, the interpretation of those statisics takes the mind of a man.

I have yet to find a women only insurer who can give me a decent quote, so I have never used one and don't intend to.
These companies come across as tacky and gimmicky. I am not sure how much help they would be in an accident claim. Diamond try to lock you in to automatic renewal and such - never a good idea.
Despite being female, I drive over 16000 miles per year and have plenty of experience of witnessing bad driving, particularly men in flashy cars who are fond of tailgating while using their mobile phone. Not buying unnecessary toiletries 2024 26/53 UU, 25 IN0 -
All I'm saying is, if you drive less, your less likely to be in a crash, thats pure common sense.
This is not necessarily true.
I can give two reasons why I think this isn't true.
Firstly people that drive small distances e.g. less than 2000 miles per year, are likely to be worse drivers because of their lack of familiarity with road conditions and their own vehicle.
Secondly you could have a real idiot (or inexperienced driver) that drives few miles compared with someone very well trained that does many miles.
For example lets take a trained traffic police officer who does many miles but is properly trained in advanced driving techniques and compare them with a 17 year old on a scooter or a 90 year old going to the shops.
So I disgaree with you that this is "pure common sense".
You need to look at other factors such as training, reactions (age?), experience (age?) as well as what TYPE of driving someone does.
Well said lisyloo - and I'll add another to the list - people who drive less are more likely to do their driving in urban areas, which increases the risk of having an accident. For example, my mum drives to church twice a week and Sainsburys once, adding up to just a few miles per week as a more able bodied person could walk those distances. Yet she has had 1 accident in the last few years - when a car pulled out from his parking space without looking. Also, she's at risk every time she pulls out of the entrance to her flat as a chap parks his massive van right up to the edge, assuming people have X-ray eyes.0 -

From the brief details available, I would so the male caused the accident. I assume he was on the wrong side of the road and was driving recklessly.
The reason that he was overtaking would have been to get past a doddery old man/woman but that is no excuse. To enjoy accident free motoring we all need to learn to share the roads with other users (of all ages and abilities).
My view is that EVERY accident should carry a fixed penalty. I had a speeding ticket that awarded me 3 points and a £60 fine. When the old lady drove into the back of my wife's car (writing it off and causing neck injuries to my wife), the same old lady did not get fined or points awarded.

Women safer drivers what rubbish.
Just look how they drive on the advert.
Singing some daft song(Undue care and attention)
No seat belts (on the spot fine)
No hands (Wreckless driving)
They even let a Kangeroo drive!!!!!!!!!!0 -
This (http://www.kwik-fitinsurance.com/news/Women-Drivers/women-are-safer-drivers-–-proven-$574.htm) Kwik Fit 'Proof' is utter codwallopp because as someone else has pointed out it doesn't tell you how many Men and Women ride motorbikes, so the information is completely irrelevant. You can't say:
"Female motorcyclists were involved in 693 road accidents, almost 85 per cent fewer than their male counterparts who had 4,382 accidents"
Because there may only be 2000 female bike riders in the UK and there could be 1 million male bike riders, which would mean that 35% of women bikers crashed where as only 0.4% of men crashed. See what I mean. Without knowing how many motor cycle riders thre are of each gender Kwik fits information is useless.
The Ratio of men to women in that example is one woman crashes for every 7 men. Why not do a survey and count how many of each you see next time your out? I expect there are a lot more than 7 men motorcyclists for evry woman.
Anyway, I'm not hitting out at women in general. All I care about is getting cheaper car insurance for myself, If sheila's Wheels don't want to insure me, then fine as they make bad adverts and I wouldn't bother.
What does annoy me is that these insurance companies make assumptions about me. I'm an early 20's male. I'm a good driver regardless of how my age group and gender is portrayed. because some idiots drive fast it pushes my insurance up. I had my eye on a Lovely Mazda RX-8. As I haven't got many regular money treatments and have saved up from a well paid job since I left school, I decided to treat myself. Turns out the inusrance will be £1600, which I refuse to pay. I have been driving for 4 years and have 2 years no claims. I checked the insurance using my mums naming and assuming she had 4 months driving experience and no no claims, that would cost her about £800.
I ran this test last night and will be ringing the insurer in question to ask them why mine would be over twice the price when I have 4 years of proven driving and she has 4 months. And I will not take 'it's proven that women of that age are less likely to crash' as a decent explantaion. I'll let you know how I get on.0
