    How do you do that?!

Get third party only insurance (this is a legal requirement so no choice about that). Then put the rest aside to cover any claims.

On "average" you should do better by self-insuring because insurance companies are businesses and have to employ staff and make a profit.
There is of course no guarantee of having "average" luck. You could be unlucky and then you would be out of pocket.

The most moneysaving way to proceed is to insure only the things that are either legally required or you cannot afford to self-insure.

Some older people do this with private medical insurance. e.g. they pay for their own operations rather than paying insurance premiums.

Obviously this is a gamble, but if you can cover the risk yourself then you can save yourself quite a lot in insurance premiums (and be in control of when and what to pay out).

    Hi Guys,

I've just had a BRILLIANT new business idea.
I'm planning on starting a company that aims to be COMPLETELY FAIR to it's customers when assesing premiums.

    The assesment process will include

    1) A driving test by a trained instructor
    2) A medical questionaire undertaken by a qulified nurse to asses risks in terms of health, drink, drugs etc.
    3) An attitude assesment by a clinical psychologist to asses your personal level of competitiveness and agression.
    4) A personal quotation by a qualified actuary.

The cost for a single quotation is £400 per person but I'm willing to discount this to £750 for a couple.

Please can I have a show of hands as to who is interested before I launch my new business.

LoL - the thing is that for some people it probably would be cost effective to take up the offer.

You really should add credit history and police record searches too just to cover a few more bases

You didn't add a gender test like they used to do for East German female athletes...
Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world
Beats a '52 Vincent and a red headed girl

Dont need a gender test though remember as we are using actual driving ability/ psychological screening etc instead of sex so that we all pay an extra £300 but know the insurance isnt sexist any more

Well it was £400 but strangely enough it's all gone quite and I haven't had loads of support for my idea.
    Isn't that odd !!

I was thinking we would have a new launch discount to ensure that we hit our 1m in force policies by the end of year 1... though a target of 10 may be more realistic :)
