July 2013 Brides and Grooms

Options
I'd seen quite afew threads about 2013 weddings so I thought I'd start one for July 2013.

Decided to get married on 4th July 2013, and I'm already trawling the net fervently for ideas on the wedding.

How are other brides/ grooms getting along with their preparations for July '13?

OMG, scary! I've passed our two year date so I'm ok at the moment :) It'll come round so quick you won't even know it though.

I'm July 4th which will be 12 yrs to the date of when we met, which I really wanted as July 2012 was too early for me.

OH thought it was hilarious that he'd be getting married on independence day.... can't think why though :D

Coincidences: 4th July is the day of our "first date"!

    Where are you getting married?
Have you done much planning already?

We've only booked the venue. Have been looking at other things like invitations, bands, etc. but it still seems a bit early to be doing things for definite.

We've not booked anywhere yet but I've whittled it down to a few places that look lovely, hoping to go and have a look at them in the next week or so though.

Other than that there's nothing booked, but I've seen a cake design I love, which OH likes as well. I'm going to get an additional piece made just for him though as a surprise. Just have to find someone who could make it though, I've not looked much yet, I know the design I want though so thats half the battle!

I'm going to a wedding fayre in Sept with my mum, and then one after with the girls, which will be fun.

I've looked on ebay for bargains on invites, so would suggest looking on there for a good price.

I have my planning book ready, just need to start using it now :D
  • Just found a really nice looking website for a photographer, not sure if we'll go with them though as they charge £1,000 for the day.... you do get photos on a CD but really not sure if thats good or not though, seems abit pricey to me, but maybe i'm being naive?!

Depends really on how much you like the photographer, their work, and what you get for that price.

Coincidently, we just went to see a photographer yesterday.

I'd see one of his albums at another venue, looked him up on the web, sent him a few emails and arranged to have a chat yesterday.

    He's charging just under £1500.
This will include 2 discs of the photos (1 optimised for the computer and 1 optimised for printing) and a 20 spread 12" x 12" album.

Most photographers will offer a range of packages which can be chopped and changed depending on what you want.

For example, this guy offers just the 2 discs for just under £1000 or a bigger album (16" x 12") for £1750.

Personally, I believe that with photography - you get what you pay for.

But, it's important that you go and see their work. e.g. a whole wedding album so that you know they haven't just selected the good ones.

You should also meet them so you can get an idea of whether you'll get on with them on the day. They need to be assertive enough to order people arround, but also polite enough so not to upset anyone.

And of course, you have to like the style of photograph that they take!
  • Just been to my 2nd wedding fayre now, and was abit disappointed by the 2nd one... am hoping they're not all bad. The first was ok, but the freebies were definitely lacking.... I am a MSE forum junkie after all :)
  • Seems there's only the two of us on this thread - but I don't mind!

We're not going to a wedding fair until 23rd October. Am not holding my breath though. Most people that I talk to say that as the people need to pay for their pitches, there are very little bargains to be had.

Were there any bands at the ones you've been to? Can't believe people are expecting me to put a deposit down on a band that I haven't even heard perform live!

Going to see another photographer on Saturday. I really liked the one we saw, but everyone's telling us we have to compare him with others. Hopefully come Saturday afternoon, I can tick another item off the list!
