  • we won't talk to them again

Hugs. Sounds like you're better off without such toxic people in your life x
  • The only trouble is that at christmas my mum in law said what do you want for a present and after some thought we said nothing but lets go camping together for a few days for a holiday and they said fine thats great it will be so much fun but then the sil has been invited and i don't want to sound !!!!!y but i can cope with her for 2-3 hours but 4days i dont know she will correct me and my kids on everything we say, she will put us down in the fact we live in a council house (bought). She puts me down cause i am a housewife and she puts my son down even though we have just found out he has dyslexia she will still go on at him. also he is left handed and she said to me make him write with his right hand which i said no thats never going to happen i hate her !

Right. You need to prepare some polite but ice-cold replies to stop her in her tracks.

"Let's not raise issues relating to housing and snobbery now, please."

"I respect your choice to work. I don't want to discuss my decision to be a SAHM."

"I'd appreciate you not criticising my children. Please stop."

incidentally if someone else had to discipline my child, I would see that as a failing on my part, because regardless of whether or not you minded what your child was doing, they were clearly annoying another adult, which I personally would not allow to happen.

I think that's very culture and family specific. OH's extended family in Israel is swarming with children (up to 9 in one family!) and it's very common for any handy adult to tell off any child, and accepted by all the parents.

If you are standing / sitting around not doing anything, you always get a baby put in your arms, too!
